PRECAUTION
DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY (w/o DPF)
REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY LH (w/ DPF)
REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY RH (w/ DPF)
REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING A
REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING C
DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE (w/ DPF)
REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE (w/o DPF)
REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT
DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE
DISCONNECT GROUND CABLE
SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
REMOVE NO. 2 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY
REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
DISCONNECT BREATHER PLUG HOSE
DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
REMOVE OIL PAN COVER
REMOVE TRANSMISSION HOUSING COVER
REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR
REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
Automatic Transmission Assembly (For 1Vd-Ftv) -- Removal |
- NOTICE:
- After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Click here)
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).
3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH |
Remove the 3 bolts and screw.
Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly LH.
4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH |
Remove the 3 bolts and 2 screws.
Turn the clip indicated by the arrow in the illustration to remove the front fender splash shield sub-assembly RH.
5. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 10 bolts and No. 1 engine under cover.
6. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER |
Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 engine under cover.
7. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY (w/o DPF) |
Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector assembly.
8. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY LH (w/ DPF) |
Remove the 6 bolts and oil pan protector assembly LH.
9. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY RH (w/ DPF) |
Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector assembly RH.
10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING A |
Remove the 3 clips and front fender apron seal front RH.
11. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING C |
Remove the 4 clips and front fender apron seal rear RH.
12. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID |
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 20 N*m{204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf}
13. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the clip and pin, and disconnect the gear shifting rod from the transmission control shaft lever RH.
14. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY |

16. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE (w/ DPF) |
(Click here)
17. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE (w/o DPF) |
(Click here)
18. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT |
Remove the 2 bolts and oil pan insulator.
Using a wrench, hold the crankshaft.
- NOTICE:
- Do not turn the crankshaft counterclockwise. If it is turned counterclockwise, check that the crankshaft pulley set bolt is not loose. If loose, tighten the bolt (Click here).
Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter setting bolts.
- HINT:
- There will be one black colored bolt.
19. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE |
Disconnect the 2 transmission oil cooler hoses from the oil cooler tube union.
Remove the 3 bolts and separate the oil cooler tube from the engine.
20. DISCONNECT GROUND CABLE |
Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
21. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY |
Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the crossmember.
- NOTICE:
- In order to protect the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly, place attachments on the transmission jack.
- Make sure that the attachments and the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly are centered on the transmission jack.
- To prevent the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly from deforming, do not place any attachments under the automatic transmission oil pan sub-assembly of the automatic transmission assembly.
- Secure the automatic transmission assembly to the transmission jack using a belt, etc. to prevent it from falling.
22. REMOVE NO. 2 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Remove the engine mounting hole cover.
Remove the 4 bolts of the rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator.
Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and No. 2 frame crossmember sub-assembly.
23. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR |
Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission assembly.
24. DISCONNECT BREATHER PLUG HOSE |
Disconnect the 3 breather plug hoses from the wire harness.
25. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR |
Tilt the transmission downward.
- NOTICE:
- Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.
Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors, 2 speed sensor connectors and 2 or 3 transfer control side connectors.
- HINT:
- Detach the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.
Disconnect the 8 harness clamps.
Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the wire harness.
Remove the 2 bolts and oil pan cover.
27. REMOVE TRANSMISSION HOUSING COVER |
Remove the 3 bolts and transmission housing cover.
28. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 10 bolts and transmission.
- NOTICE:
- Do not use excess force to pry off the transmission assembly.
29. REMOVE LOWER TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR |
Detach the clamp and remove the 7 bolts and lower transfer case protector.
30. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 8 bolts.
Pull the transfer assembly straight up and remove it from the transmission.
- NOTICE:
- Take care not to damage the adaptor oil seal with the transfer input shaft spline.
31. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY |
Put matchmarks on the automatic transmission assembly and the torque converter assembly.
