DTC P0489 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Low |
DTC P0490 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High |
DESCRIPTION
The EGR actuator is operated by the ECM and opens and closes the EGR valve using gears. The opening angle of the EGR valve is detected by the EGR position sensor, which is mounted on the EGR body.P0489DTC Detection Drive Pattern
| DTC Detection Condition
| Trouble Area
|
Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more
| The EGR actuator current is below 0.5 A for 2.0 seconds during EGR valve operation. (1 trip detection logic).
| - Open or short in electric EGR control valve assembly circuit
- Electric EGR control valve assembly
- ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- NOTICE:
- Inspect the fuses of circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
- After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000012XK058X.html) and initialization (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000TIN056X.html).
- After replacing the fuel supply pump assembly, the ECM needs initialization (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000TIN056X.html).
- After replacing an injector assembly, the ECM needs registration (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000012XK058X.html).
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.INSPECT ELECTRIC EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY |
Inspect the electric EGR valve assembly (HILUX_TGN26 RM000003TCI00IX.html).
2.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM) |
Disconnect the electric EGR valve assembly connector.
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection
| Condition
| Specified Condition
|
C120-4 (M+) - C112-6 (EGM+)
| Always
| Below 1 Ω
|
C120-5 (M-) - C112-7 (EGM-)
| Always
| Below 1 Ω
|
C120-4 (M+) or C112-6 (EGM+) - Body ground
| Always
| 10 kΩ or higher
|
C120-5 (M-) or C112-7 (EGM-) - Body ground
| Always
| 10 kΩ or higher
|
Reconnect the electric EGR valve assembly connector.
Reconnect the ECM connector.
Replace the ECM (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000013Z001IX.html).
4.REPLACE ELECTRIC EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY |
Replace the electric EGR valve assembly (HILUX_TGN26 RM000004QWK009X.html).
5.REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR |
Repair or replace the harness or connector.
6.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Clear the DTCs (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000PDK0X2X.html).
Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds or more.
Start the engine.
Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.
Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
