OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (for Hatchback) - Trouble in Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator


DESCRIPTION

The occupant classification system detects the front passenger seat condition. It then informs a passenger of the front passenger airbag assembly and front seat side airbag assembly condition (activated/not activated) with the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator.
HINT:
Approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON, the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator will be on/off depending on the conditions listed below.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
When the indicator is malfunctioning, if the SRS warning light is off, follow the procedures below as a DTC is not output. If the SRS warning light is on, a DTC is output. Troubleshoot for the output DTC.
1.CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and check the SRS warning light condition.

    HINT:
    If this trouble occurs, the SRS warning light is off. If the light is on, a DTC is output. Troubleshoot for the output DTC.
OK:
After the primary check period, the SRS warning light turns off.
HINT:
The primary check is performed for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.

2.PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION AND SENSITIVITY CHECK
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Using the Techstream, perform Zero Point Calibration and Sensitivity Check (YARIS_NCP93 RM0000010VN073X.html).

    OK:
    Zero point calibration is completed using the Techstream.

3.RETIGHTEN FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH BOLT
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Loosen the 4 installation bolts of the front seat assembly RH.

  1. Tighten the 4 installation bolts of the front seat assembly RH to the specified torque.

Torque:
37 N*m{377 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf}

4.PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION AND SENSITIVITY CHECK
  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Using the Techstream, perform Zero Point Calibration and Sensitivity Check (YARIS_NCP93 RM0000010VN073X.html).

    OK:
    Zero point calibration is completed using the Techstream.

5.READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (PASSENGER SIDE BUCKLE SWITCH)
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Using the Techstream, read the Data List (YARIS_NCP93 RM0000010VM071X.html).

    1. Read the display when the passenger side buckle switch is operated.

6.CHECK CONNECTOR
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  1. Disconnect the connectors from the occupant classification ECU and the 2 occupant classification sensors.

  1. Check that the connectors (on the occupant classification ECU side and 2 occupant classification sensors side) are not damaged.

    OK:
    Connectors are not deformed or damaged.

7.REPLACE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION ECU
  1. Replace the occupant classification ECU (YARIS_NCP93 RM0000011JG02SX.html).

8.PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION AND SENSITIVITY CHECK
  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

  1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Using the Techstream, perform Zero Point Calibration and Sensitivity Check (YARIS_NCP93 RM0000010VN073X.html).

    OK:
    Zero point calibration is completed using the Techstream.

9.CHECK CONNECTOR
  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  1. Disconnect the connectors from the occupant classification ECU and front seat inner belt assembly RH.

  1. Check that the connectors (on the occupant classification ECU side and front seat inner belt RH side) are not damaged.

    OK:
    Connectors are not deformed or damaged.

    HINT:
    Perform the inspection using parts from a normal vehicle when possible.
