DTC B1695/16 Door Side Airbag Sensor LH Malfunction


DESCRIPTION

The door side airbag sensor LH circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly, side airbag sensor LH, door side airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor LH.
The side airbag sensor LH, door side airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor LH detect impacts to the vehicle and send signals to the center airbag sensor assembly to determine if the airbags should be deployed.
DTC B1695/16 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the door side airbag sensor LH circuit.

  1. The center airbag sensor assembly receives an open circuit signal, a short circuit to ground or a short circuit to B+ signal in the door side airbag sensor LH circuit for 2 seconds.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1.CHECK CONNECTORS

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  1. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the door side airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor LH. Also check that the connectors that link the floor wire and front door wire LH are properly connected.

    OK:
    The connectors are properly connected.
    HINT:
    If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

  1. Disconnect the connectors from the door side airbag sensor LH and rear airbag sensor LH. Also disconnect the connectors that link the floor wire and front door wire LH.

  1. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not damaged.

    OK:
    The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

2.CHECK WIRE HARNESS (OPEN)


  1. Connect the connectors that link the floor wire and front door wire LH.

  1. Using SST, connect terminals 2 (BDL+) and 1 (BDL-) of connector E.

    NOTICE:
    Do not forcibly insert SST into the terminals of the connector when connecting.

3.CHECK WIRE HARNESS (SHORT TO B+)

  1. Disconnect SST from connector E.

  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Voltage:
    Tester Connection

    L59-1 (BDL+) - Body ground
    		Ignition switch ON
    		Below 1 V
    L59-2 (BDL-) - Body ground
    		Ignition switch ON

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

5.CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH

  1. Connect the connector to the rear airbag sensor LH.

  1. Interchange the door side airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors.

  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000XFE0H1X.html).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Check for DTCs (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000XFE0H1X.html).

    HINT:

  1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

  1. Return the door side airbag sensors LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

6.CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR LH

  1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

  1. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000XFE0H1X.html).

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

  1. Check for DTCs (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000XFE0H1X.html).
