ECD SYSTEM - MIL Circuit


DESCRIPTION

The MIL is used to inform the user when the ECM has detected a vehicle malfunction.
By turning the ignition switch to ON, power is supplied to the MIL circuit and the ECM provides the circuit ground that illuminates the MIL.
Operation of the MIL should be checked visually: When the ignition switch is first turned to ON, the MIL should illuminate. When the engine is started, the MIL should turn off.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
1.CHECK MIL CONDITION

  1. Check the MIL condition.

    Result:
    Condition
    		Proceed to
    MIL remains on
    		A
    MIL does not illuminate
    		B

2.CHECK IF MIL TURNS OFF

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

  1. Check if DTCs have been stored (LandCruiser RM000000VR600WX.html). If DTCs are stored, write them down.

  1. Clear the DTCs using the GTS (LandCruiser RM000000VR600WX.html).

  1. Check that the MIL turns off.

    OK:
    The MIL turns off.

Go to step 3
OK

REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTC (LandCruiser RM000000VQT00VX.html)

3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (FOR SHORT)

  1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Check that the MIL is not illuminated.

    OK:
    The MIL is not illuminated.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.

Go to step 4
OK

REPLACE ECM (LandCruiser RM000000VW203FX.html)

4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY)

  1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Disconnect the combination meter assembly connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:
    Tester Connection
    		Condition
    		Specified Condition
    G182-13 (W) - G7-7 (CHK)
    		Always
    		Below 1 Ω
    G182-13 (W) or G7-7 (CHK) - Body ground
    		Always
    		10 kΩ or higher

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Reconnect the combination meter assembly connector.

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK

REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (LandCruiser RM000003QKY01CX.html)

5.CHECK IF MIL ILLUMINATES

  1. Check that the MIL illuminates when turning the ignition switch to ON.

    OK:
    The MIL illuminates.

6.INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (MIL CIRCUIT)

  1. Refer to the combination meter assembly troubleshooting procedures (LandCruiser RM000002Z4L055X.html).
