DTC P0340 2AD-FHV

DTC P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

Description

The camshaft position sensor (G signal) consists of a magnet, iron core and pickup coil.
The G signal plate (timing sprocket) has one tooth on its outer circumference and is installed on the camshaft timing chain gear. When the timing gear rotates, the protrusion on the signal plate and the air gap on the pickup coil change, causing fluctuations in the magnetic field that generate a voltage in the pickup coil.
The NE signal plate has 34 teeth and is mounted on the crank angle sensor plate. The NE signal sensor generates 34 signals for every engine revolution. The ECM detects the standard crankshaft angle based on the G signal and the actual crankshaft angle and the engine speed by the NE signal.

Inspection procedure

NOTICE:

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration and initialization.

1.INSPECT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

Inspect camshaft position sensor

  1. Disconnect the B35 camshaft position sensor connector.

  2. Measure the resistance of the camshaft position sensor.

Standard resistance:

Tester Connection Specified Condition
B35-1 - B35-2 835 to 1,400 ? at cold
B35-1 - B35-2 1,060 to 1,645 ? at hot

HINT:

In the table above, the terms "Cold" and "Hot" refer to the temperature of the coils in the sensor. "Cold" means approximately -10 to 50°C (14 to 122°F). "Hot" means approximately 50 to 100°C (122 to 212°F).

  1. Reconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

  NG
REPLACE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

OK

2.CHECK WIRE HARNESS (CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM)

Check wire harness (camshaft position sensor - ecm)

  1. Disconnect the B35 camshaft position sensor connector.

  2. Disconnect the B32 ECM connector.

  3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

Standard resistance:

Tester Connection Specified Condition
B35-1 - B32-80 (G+) Below 1 ?
B35-2 - B32-79 (G-) Below 1 ?
B35-1 or B32-80 (G+) - Body ground 10 k? or higher
B35-2 or B32-79 (G-) - Body ground 10 k? or higher
  1. Reconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

  2. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  NG
REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

OK

3.CHECK CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (SENSOR INSTALLATION)

Check camshaft position sensor (sensor installation)

  1. Check the sensor installation.

OK:

Sensor is installed correctly.

  NG
REPAIR OR REPLACE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

OK

4.CHECK CAMSHAFT TIMING SPROCKET
  1. Check the condition of the timing sprocket.

OK:

Timing sprocket does not have any cracks or deformation.

  NG
REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING SPROCKET

OK

REPLACE ECM
