SFI system - Starter Signal Circuit
Description
While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal ST1 of the ignition switch*1 or terminal STAR of the main body ECU*2 to the park/neutral position switch (for automatic transmission) or clutch start switch (for manual transmission) and also flows to terminal STA of the ECM (STA Signal).

Inspection procedure
1.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL) |

Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
-
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
-
Turn the intelligent tester on.
-
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.
-
Read values.
-
Check the result when the ignition switch is turned to ON and when the engine is started.
OK:

2.INSPECT STARTER RELAY (ST) |
-
Inspect the starter relay (ST).

3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - CLUTCH START SWITCH) |
-
Disconnect the clutch start switch.
-
Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block.
-
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open):
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition ST relay (1) - A49-2*1 Always Below 1 ? ST relay (1) - e1-2*2 Always Below 1 ? Standard Resistance (Check for Short):
Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition ST relay (1) or A49-2*1 - Body ground Always 10 k? or higher ST relay (1) or e1-2*2 - Body ground Always 10 k? or higher *1: for LHD
*2: for RHD

Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Disconnect the clutch start switch connector.

Disconnect the ECM connector.

Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance (Check for Open):
for LHD Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition A49-2 - A38-48 (STA) Always Below 1 ? for RHD Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition e1-2 - A52-48 (STA) Always Below 1 ? Standard Resistance (Check for Short):
