Pre-Heating System -- On-Vehicle Inspection

NOTICE:
Turn the engine switch off for 60 seconds before performing the following inspections.

1. INSPECT ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT

    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20.2Ad-Fhv Starting.Starting System.Pre-Heating System On-Vehicle Inspection
  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and measure the duration of time that the light remains illuminated.

    Light illumination duration:
Refer to the graph and the table.
If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow plug relay.

    Light illumination duration:

    Water temperature
    °C (°F)
    Light illumination time
    (sec.)
    -20 (-4)
    10 to 12
    -15 (5)
    5 to 6
    0 (32)
    3 to 4
    35 (95)
    0.45 to 1

2. INSPECT PRE-HEATING

    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20.2Ad-Fhv Starting.Starting System.Pre-Heating System On-Vehicle Inspection
  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and measure the length of time that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.

    Pre-heating time:

    Engine coolant temperature
    Pre-heating time
    more than 40°C (104°F)
    1 sec.
    40°C (104°F) or less
    Refer to the graph*1
    (15 sec. at the longest)
*1: Pre-heating time changes depending on battery voltage.
If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow plug relay.
  1. Turn the engine switch on (START) and verify that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.

  1. While cranking the engine, measure the length of time that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.

    Pre-heating time:

    Engine coolant temperature
Pre-heating time (Battery Voltage 14.5 V or less)
Pre-heating time (Battery Voltage 14.5 V or more)
    more than 40°C (104°F)
    1 sec.
    1 sec.
    40°C (104°F) or less
    1 sec.
Voltage is constantly applied while cranking the engine.
If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plug and glow plug relay.

3. INSPECT AFTER GLOW TIME

    Lexus Is250, Is220D. Gse20 Ale20.2Ad-Fhv Starting.Starting System.Pre-Heating System On-Vehicle Inspection
  1. After the engine starts, measure the length of time that battery voltage remains present at terminal GREL (E59-58) of the ECM.

    After glow time:
    Refer to the graph.
If the result is not as specified, check the ECM.
