Spiral Cable -- Removal |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
- The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.
1. PRECAUTION |
- CAUTION:
- Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing (Click here).
- NOTICE:
- After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (- ) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work (Click here).
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).
3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD |
4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY |
5. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER |

6. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER |

7. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY |
Disconnect each connector.
- NOTICE:
- When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable sub-assembly.

8. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE (w/ Steering Angle Sensor) |
- NOTICE:
- Remove the spiral cable from the steering sensor only when replacing it.
- Removing the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly without using a lock pin may result in a misaligned center position of the steering sensor. Therefore, make sure to use the lock pin provided with a new spiral cable when removing the steering sensor from the spiral cable sub-assembly.
Install the lock pin to the steering sensor.
- NOTICE:
- Use the lock pin provided with a new spiral cable.
- Do not remove the lock pin before the spiral cable is installed to the steering sensor.
Detach the 6 claws and remove the spiral cable from the steering sensor.
