REMOVE STEERING WHEEL HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Heater)
Steering Wheel -- Removal |
- CAUTION:
- Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column (Click here).
| 1. FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD |
| 2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- NOTICE:
- After the engine switch is turned off, the navigation system requires approximately 90 seconds to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 90 seconds or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Click here).
| 3. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER |
Detach the 2 claws and remove the steering wheel cover.

| 4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER |
Detach the 2 claws and remove the steering wheel cover.
 |
| 5. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/ Airbag System) |
Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.
 |
Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.
- NOTICE:
- When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
 |
Disconnect the horn connector.
Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.
- NOTICE:
- When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
| 6. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/o Airbag System) |
- HINT:
- Refer to the step "REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/ Airbag System)".
| 7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Pad Switch) |
Disconnect the connector.
 |
Remove the 2 screws.
Detach the 4 claws and remove the steering pad switch.
| 8. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH (w/ Cruise Control System) |
Disconnect the connector and clamp.
 |
Remove the 2 screws.
 |
Remove the switch.
 |
| 9. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY |
Remove the steering wheel set nut.
Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.

Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

| 10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Heater) |
Disconnect the 2 connectors.

Detach the connector clamp.
 |
Remove the 2 screws and steering wheel heater control assembly from the lower steering wheel boss cover.
| 11. REMOVE STEERING PAD COVER LH (w/o Steering Pad Switch) |
Remove the screw and 3 guide pins, remove the steering pad cover.
 |
| 12. REMOVE STEERING PAD COVER RH (w/o Steering Pad Switch) |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedures described for the LH side.
| 13. REMOVE STEERING SHAKE DAMPER |
Remove the 2 screws and remove the steering shake damper.
 |
| 14. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL BOSS LOWER COVER |
Remove the 2 screws and 4 claws, and remove the steering wheel boss lower cover.
