DTC P0168 Fuel Temperature Too High |
DESCRIPTION
Refer to DTC P0180 (Click here).DTC Detection Drive Pattern | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area |
Drive vehicle at high speed or with heavy load (Use freeze frame data from time malfunction occurred as reference while driving) | If the fuel temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 60°C (140°F) at engine start, and conditions (a) and (b) are met: (a) Vehicle is driven at varying speeds (accelerating and decelerating). (b) Fuel temperature remains within 3°C (5.4°F) of the engine starting temperature. | Fuel temperature sensor |
If the fuel temperature is more than 60°C (140°F) at engine start, and conditions (a) and (b) are met: (a) Vehicle is driven at varying speeds (accelerating and decelerating). (b) Fuel temperature remains within 1°C (1.8°F) of the engine starting temperature, and this is continuously recorded 6 times. |

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- HINT:
- If DTC P0180, P0182 and/or P0183 is stored at the same time as P0168, the fuel temperature sensor may have an open or short circuit. Troubleshoot those DTCs first.
- Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0168) |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.
Read the DTCs.
Result Result Proceed to P0168 is output A P0168 and other DTCs are output B - HINT:
- If DTCs other than P0168 are output, perform troubleshooting for those codes first.

3.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
Clear the DTCs (Click here).
Turn the ignition switch off.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Drive the vehicle at a high speed or with a heavy load (Use freeze frame data from the time the malfunction occurred as a reference while driving).
Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
- HINT:
- Perform the following procedure using the tester to determine whether or not the DTC judgment has been carried out.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
Input DTC P0168.
Check that STATUS is NORMAL. If STATUS is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, drive the vehicle at a high speed or with a heavy load.
