Rear Brake (For 2Wd) -- Inspection

1. CHECK BRAKE DRUM INSIDE DIAMETER

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25
  1. Using a drum gauge or equivalent, measure the inside diameter of the brake drum.

    Standard inside diameter:
    254.0 mm (10.000 in.)
    Maximum inside diameter:
    256.0 mm (10.079 in.)
If the inside diameter is more than the maximum, replace the brake drum.

2. CHECK BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25
  1. Using a ruler, measure the thickness of the shoe lining.

    Standard thickness:
    5.1 mm (0.201 in.)
    Minimum thickness:
    1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)
If the lining thickness is less than the minimum value, or if there is any severe or uneven wear, replace the brake shoe.
    NOTICE:
If the brake shoes need to be replaced, they must be replaced as a set.

3. CHECK BRAKE DRUM AND BRAKE SHOE LINING FOR PROPER CONTACT

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25
  1. Apply chalk to the inside surface of the drum, and then grind the brake shoe lining so that it fits together with the drum properly.
If the contact between the drum and the shoe lining is improper, make adjustments using a brake shoe grinder or replace the brake shoe assembly.

4. CHECK REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
  1. Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust or scoring.
