Rear Brake (For 2Wd) Disassembly

  1. DISCONNECT REAR BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING

  2. DISCONNECT SHOE TENSION SPRING

  3. REMOVE FRONT BRAKE SHOE

  4. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT SET LH

  5. REMOVE REAR BRAKE SHOE

  6. REMOVE REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER LH

  7. REMOVE REAR BRAKE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  8. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

  9. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER CUP

  10. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM BLEEDER PLUG CAP

  11. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM BLEEDER PLUG

Rear Brake (For 2Wd) -- Disassembly


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The following procedure is for the LH side.


1. DISCONNECT REAR BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Disconnect the rear brake shoe return spring from the front brake shoe and rear brake shoe.

    NOTICE:
    Be careful not to damage the wheel cylinder boot.


2. DISCONNECT SHOE TENSION SPRING


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Disconnect the shoe tension spring from the front brake shoe and rear brake shoe.



3. REMOVE FRONT BRAKE SHOE


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.Brake (Rear).Rear Brake (For 2Wd).Rear Brake (For 2Wd) Disassembly

  1. Using SST, remove the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring, pin and front brake shoe.

4. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT SET LH

  1. Remove the parking brake shoe strut set from the rear brake shoe.

    NOTICE:
    Do not disassemble the strut set, and be careful not to damage or bend any of the components.


5. REMOVE REAR BRAKE SHOE

  1. Using SST, remove the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring, pin and rear brake shoe.

  1. Using needle-nose pliers, remove the adjust lever tension spring from the automatic adjust lever. Then remove the shoe.

  1. Using needle-nose pliers, disconnect the No. 3 parking brake cable from the parking brake shoe lever.



6. REMOVE REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER LH


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Remove the E-ring and rear brake automatic adjust lever.



7. REMOVE REAR BRAKE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Remove the C-washer and rear brake parking brake shoe lever.



8. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25

  1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the brake line.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and cylinder.



9. REMOVE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER CUP

  1. Remove the 2 cylinder boots from the cylinder.

  1. Remove the 2 pistons and compression spring.

  1. Remove the 2 cups from each piston.



10. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM BLEEDER PLUG CAP


11. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM BLEEDER PLUG

  1. Remove the rear brake drum bleeder plug from the rear wheel brake cylinder.
