Rear Brake (For 2Wd) Removal

  1. CHECK BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS

  2. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  3. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

  4. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

Rear Brake (For 2Wd) -- Removal


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
  2. The procedure listed below is for the LH side.


1. CHECK BRAKE SHOE LINING THICKNESS


    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25
  1. Remove the shoe inspection hole plug, and check the shoe lining thickness through the hole.

    Minimum thickness:
    1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)
    If the thickness is less than the minimum, replace the shoe.


2. REMOVE REAR WHEEL


3. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID
NOTICE:
Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.


4. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Release the parking brake lever, and remove the rear brake drum.

    HINT:
    If the rear brake drum cannot be removed easily, perform the following procedures.

  1. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug and insert a screwdriver into the hole on the backing plate, and hold the automatic adjust lever away from the adjuster.

  1. Using another screwdriver, compress the brake shoe adjuster by turning the adjusting wheel.
