INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP BODY
INSPECT STATOR SHAFT ASSEMBLY
INSPECT CLEARANCE OF FRONT OIL PUMP BODY
INSPECT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR ROTATION
| 1. INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP BODY |
Using a dial indicator, measure the inside diameter of the oil pump body bush.
- Maximum inside diameter:
- 38.19 mm (1.50 in.)
If the inside diameter is more than the maximum, replace the oil pump body.
| 2. INSPECT STATOR SHAFT ASSEMBLY |
Using a dial indicator, measure the inside diameter of the stator shaft bush.
- Maximum Inside Diameter:
Front Side
| Rear Side
|
21.527 mm (0.847 in.)
| 27.026 mm (1.06 in.)
|
If the inside diameter is more than the maximum, replace the stator shaft.
| 3. INSPECT CLEARANCE OF FRONT OIL PUMP BODY |
Push the driven gear to one side of the body.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance.
- Standard body clearance:
- 0.07 to 0.15 mm (0.00275 to 0.00591 in.)
- Maximum body clearance:
- 0.2 mm (0.00787 in.)
If the body clearance is more than the maximum, check the drive gear, driven gear and pump body.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the tip clearance between the driven gear teeth and drive gear teeth.
- Standard tip clearance:
- 0.004 to 0.248 mm (0.000157 to 0.00976 in.)
- Maximum tip clearance:
- 0.3 mm (0.0118 in.)
If the tip clearance is more than the maximum, check the drive gear, driven gear and pump body.
Using a steel straightedge and feeler gauge, measure the side clearance of both gears.
- Standard side clearance:
- 0.02 to 0.05 mm (0.000787 to 0.00197 in.)
- Maximum side clearance:
- 0.1 mm (0.00393 in.)
If the side clearance is more than the maximum, check the drive gear, driven gear and pump body.
- HINT:
- There are 5 different thicknesses for drive and driven gears.

| 4. INSPECT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR ROTATION |
Make sure the drive gear rotates smoothly.
Remove the oil pump from the torque converter.
