SFI SYSTEM - Starter Signal Circuit

DESCRIPTION

While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal ST2 of the ignition switch through the park/neutral position switch assembly to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal).

WIRING DIAGRAM

Refer to DTC P0617 (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000TA017PX_05.html).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
HINT:
This inspection procedure is based on the premise that the engine can crank normally. If the engine cannot crank normally, proceed to the problem symptoms table (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000PDG0R6X.html).
1.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

  1. Turn the tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

  1. Read the value.

    OK:
    Ignition Switch Position
    Starter Signal
    ON
    OFF
    START
    ON

NG
Go to step 2
OK

PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000PDG0R6X.html)

2.CHECK ST RELAY (POWER SOURCE)

    Hilux. Tgn26, 36 Kun25, 26, 35, 36 Ggn25.1Gr-Fe Engine Control.Sfi System.Sfi System Starter Signal Circuit
  1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

  1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Voltage:
    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
ST relay terminal 1 - Body ground
    Engine cranking
    11 to 14 V
    HINT:
The engine does not crank because the relay is not installed.

NG
Go to step 5
OK

3.INSPECT RELAY (ST)
  1. Inspect the ST relay (HILUX_TGN26 RM000000WPQ05ZX.html).

NG
REPLACE RELAY (ST)
OK

4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND)
  1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:

    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
ST relay terminal 2- Body ground
    Always
    Below 1 Ω

NG
REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND)
OK

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY)

5.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY)
  1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

  1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:

    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    ST relay terminal 1 - C57-5 (L)
    Always
    Below 1 Ω
ST relay terminal 1 or C57-5 (L) - Body ground
    Always
    10 kΩ or higher

NG
REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY)
