REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH (for Rear Disc Brake)

Rear Axle Beam (For Hatchback) -- Removal |
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL |
2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID |
- NOTICE:
- Immediately wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with any painted surfaces.
3. SEPARATE SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE LH (w/ ABS) |
Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw of the connector lock portion and disconnect the skid control sensor wire LH connector.
- NOTICE:
- Do not remove the connector cover from the connector because the skid control sensor wire may be damaged.

Remove the nut and separate the skid control sensor wire LH.

4. SEPARATE SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE RH (w/ ABS) |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
5. SEPARATE NO. 4 REAR BRAKE TUBE (for Rear Drum Brake) |
Using a union nut wrench (10 mm), separate the No. 4 rear brake tube while holding the rear flexible hose LH with a wrench.

Remove the clip and disconnect the rear flexible hose LH from the rear axle beam assembly.
Remove the nut and separate the No. 4 rear brake tube.
6. SEPARATE NO. 3 REAR BRAKE TUBE (for Rear Drum Brake) |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
7. SEPARATE NO. 4 REAR BRAKE TUBE (for Rear Disc Brake) |
Using a union nut wrench (10 mm), separate the No. 4 rear brake tube while holding the rear flexible hose LH with a wrench.

Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the 2 rear flexible hose LH from the rear axle beam assembly.
Remove the nut and separate the No. 4 rear brake tube.
8. SEPARATE NO. 3 REAR BRAKE TUBE (for Rear Disc Brake) |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
9. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY |
Remove the cable clamp from the rear axle beam assembly.

Remove the bolt and separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
Remove the cable clamp from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
- HINT:
- Replace the clamp with a new one when installing the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
10. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
11. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Rear Drum Brake) |
Release the parking brake and remove the rear brake drum.
If the rear brake drum cannot be removed easily, perform the following procedure.
Remove the hole plug and insert a screwdriver through the hole into the backing plate, and hold the automatic adjust lever away from the adjuster.

Using another screwdriver, contract the brake shoe by turning the adjusting bolt.
12. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH (for Rear Disc Brake) |
Hold the rear disc brake pad guide pin and remove the 2 bolts and the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

13. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY RH (for Rear Disc Brake) |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
14. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD (for Rear Disc Brake) |
Remove the 2 disc brake pads from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

15. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING LH (for Rear Disc Brake) |
Remove the 2 bolts and the rear disc brake cylinder mounting from the axle beam.

16. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING RH (for Rear Disc Brake) |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
17. REMOVE REAR DISC (for Rear Disc Brake) |
Place matchmarks on the rear disc and axle hub, and remove the rear disc.

18. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for Rear Drum Brake) |
Remove the 4 bolts and remove the axle hub and bearing from the axle beam.

19. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY (for Rear Disc Brake) |
Remove the 4 bolts and remove the axle hub and bearing and the dust cover from the axle beam.

20. LOOSEN REAR AXLE BEAM ASSEMBLY |
Loosen the 2 bolts.

21. SEPARATE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH |
Support the rear axle beam assembly using a jack and wooden block as shown in the illustration.

Remove the bolt while keeping the nut from rotating and separate the rear shock absorber assembly LH.
- NOTICE:
- Remove the nut from the bolt side because the one on the lower side is a jam nut.
22. SEPARATE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY RH |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
23. REMOVE REAR COIL SPRING LH |
Lower the jack slowly.
Remove the rear coil spring LH, rear coil spring upper insulator LH and rear coil spring lower insulator LH.
24. REMOVE REAR COIL SPRING RH |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedure for the RH side as for the LH side.
25. REMOVE REAR AXLE BEAM ASSEMBLY |
Remove the 2 bolts and rear axle beam assembly.
