Back-Up Light Switch Removal

C59 Manual Transmission Transaxle. Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER

  2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE

  4. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT CABLE

  5. REMOVE BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY

Back-Up Light Switch -- Removal



1. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Hold the rear of the cover and raise it to disengage the 2 clips on the rear of the cover. Continue to raise the cover to disengage the 2 clips on the front of the cover to remove the cover.

    NOTICE:
    Attempting to disengage both front and rear clips at the same time may cause the cover to break.


2. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector and the 2 wire harness clamps.

  1. Disconnect the ventilation hose and loosen the hose clamp.

  1. Release the 2 clamps and remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.



3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE

  1. Separate the air cleaner filter element from the air cleaner.

  1. Disconnect the engine wire harness clamp from air cleaner case.

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and the air cleaner case.



4. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHIFT CABLE


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Remove the 2 clips, and disconnect the transmission control shift cable.



5. REMOVE BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector and 2 clamps.

  1. Using SST, remove the back-up light switch and gasket from the transaxle case.
