Park / Neutral Position Switch -- Installation |
1. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY |
Install the park/neutral position switch assembly to the automatic transaxle.
Temporarily install the 2 bolts.

Replace the lock plate with a new one and tighten the manual valve shaft nut.
- Torque:
- 6.9 N*m{70 kgf*cm, 61 in.*lbf}

Temporarily install the control shaft lever.
Turn the lever counterclockwise until it stops, then turn it clockwise 2 notches.

Remove the control shaft lever.
Align the groove with the neutral basic line.

Hold the switch in place and tighten the 2 bolts.
- Torque:
- 5.4 N*m{55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf}
Using a screwdriver, stake the nut with the lock plate.

Install the control shaft lever with the nut and washer.
- Torque:
- 13 N*m{133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf}

Connect the connector to the park/neutral position switch assembly.
2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY |
Install the transmission control cable assembly to the control shaft lever with the nut.
- Torque:
- 12 N*m{122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf}

Install the transmission control cable assembly to the bracket with a new clip.
3. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION |
Loosen the bolts of the park/neutral position switch and move the shift lever to N.

Align the groove with the neutral basic line.

Hold the switch in place and tighten the 2 bolts.
- Torque:
- 5.4 N*m{55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf}

After the adjustment, perform the switch operation check (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM00000191E03RX.html).
4. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION |
Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to ON.
Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts with the shift lever in N or P, but does not start in the other positions.
Check that the back-up light illuminates with the shift lever in R, but does not function in the other positions.
If a malfunction or failure is found, check the park/neutral position switch for continuity.
5. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY |
Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to ON.
Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts with the shift lever in N or P, but does not start in the other positions.
Check that the back-up light illuminates with the shift lever in R, but does not function in the other positions.
If a malfunction or failure is found, check the park/neutral position switch for continuity.
