Exhaust Pipe Installation

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression springs.

HINT:

If the free length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

Fully insert a new gasket to the exhaust manifold.

Using a plastic hammer and wooden block, tap in the new gasket until its surface is flush with the exhaust manifold.

NOTICE:

1. Be sure to install the gasket in the correct direction.
   
2. Do not reuse the gasket.
   
3. Do not damage the gasket.
   
4. Do not push in the gasket by using the exhaust pipe when connecting it.
   

Connect the front exhaust pipe assembly to the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

Install the front exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs.

Torque:

43 N*m{440 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf}

Using SST, install the heated oxygen sensor onto the front exhaust pipe.

without SST:

44 N*m{449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf}

with SST:

40 N*m{408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf}

NOTICE:

1. This torque value can be obtained by using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 in.) and SST a measurement of 30 mm (1.18 in.) (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000UYX0ETX.html).
   
2. This torque value is effective when SST is parallel to the torque wrench.
   

Install the wire harness clamp bracket and connect the wire harness clamp.

Pass the sensor connector through the floor panel and install the grommet.

Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression springs.

If the free length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

Fully insert a new gasket to the front exhaust pipe assembly.

NOTICE:

1. Be sure to install the gasket in the correct direction.
   
2. Do not reuse the gasket.
   
3. Do not damage the gasket.
   

Connect the tail exhaust pipe assembly to the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

Install the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs.

Torque:

43 N*m{440 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf}
