DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (for Manual Seat)
REMOVE FRONT SEAT TRACK BRACKET OUTER COVER LH (for Manual Seat)
REMOVE FRONT SEAT TRACK BRACKET INNER COVER LH (for Manual Seat)
REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK BOARD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (w/ Seatback Board)
Front Seat Side Airbag Assembly -- Removal |
- CAUTION:
- Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000KT106QX.html).
- If the side airbag (for models w/ side airbag) was deployed, replace the front seat assembly with a new one.
| 1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (for Manual Seat) |
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
| 2. REMOVE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSEMBLY |
| 3. REMOVE FRONT SEAT TRACK BRACKET OUTER COVER LH (for Manual Seat) |
Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the foremost position.
Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.
- HINT:
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

Remove the outer cover in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration.
| 4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT TRACK BRACKET INNER COVER LH (for Manual Seat) |
Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.
- HINT:
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
 |
Remove the inner cover in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration.
| 5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY (for Manual Seat) |
Remove the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat.
 |
Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the rearmost position.
Remove the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.
 |
Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the center position. Also, operate the reclining adjuster release handle and move the seatback to the upright position.
Disconnect the connector under the seat.
Remove the seat.
- NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
| 6. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY (for Power Seat) |
Operate the power seat switch knob and move the seat to the foremost position.
Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.
- HINT:
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

Remove the front seat track bracket outer cover in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration.
Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.
- HINT:
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
 |
Remove the front seat track bracket inner cover in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration.
Remove the 2 bolts on the rear side of the seat.
 |
Operate the power seat switch knob and move the seat to the rearmost position.
 |
Remove the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.
Operate the power seat switch knob and move the seat to the center position. Then, operate the power seat switch knob and move the seatback to the upright position.
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
Disconnect the connectors under the seat.
Remove the seat.
- NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
| 7. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK BOARD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (w/ Seatback Board) |

| 8. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK COVER (for Manual Seat) |
w/ Seatback Board:
Remove the 5 hog rings.

w/ Seatback Board:
Using a screwdriver, detach the hooks.- NOTICE:
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
w/o Seatback Board:
Open the 2 zippers.
 |
w/o Seatback Board:
Lift up the seatback cover and remove the 3 hog rings.
 |
w/ Active Headrest:
Detach the 4 claws and remove the 2 front seat headrest supports.
 |
w/o Active Headrest:
Detach the 4 claws and remove the 2 front seat headrest supports.
 |
w/ Front Seat Side Airbag:
Remove the nut and move the 2 seatback cover brackets.
 |
Remove the seatback cover (with pad) from the front seat frame assembly (w/ adjuster).
Remove the 11 hog rings and seatback cover from the seatback pad.
 |
| 9. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK COVER (for Power Seat) |
Remove the 5 hog rings.

Using a screwdriver, detach the hooks.
- HINT:
- Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
w/ Active Headrest:
Detach the 4 claws and remove the 2 headrest supports.

w/o Active Headrest:
Detach the 4 claws and remove the 2 headrest supports.
|
w/ Front Seat Side Airbag:
Remove the nut and move the 2 seatback cover brackets.
|
Remove the seatback cover (with pad) from the front seat frame assembly (w/ adjuster).
Remove the 11 hog rings and seatback cover from the seatback pad.

| 10. REMOVE FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY |
Disengage the 5 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.
 |
Disengage the 2 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.
 |
Remove the 2 nuts and front seat side airbag assembly LH.
- CAUTION:
- The nuts must not be reused.
- Make sure that the seat frame assembly is not deformed. If it is, replace it with a new one.
