Steering Angle Sensor Removal

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  4. REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY

  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for LHD)

  8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for RHD)

  9. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  10. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  11. REMOVE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR

Steering Angle Sensor -- Removal



1. PRECAUTION
CAUTION:
Be sure to read the "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000KT106QX.html).


2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


3. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
NOTICE:
When reconnecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal after installing the steering sensor, check that the front tires and steering wheel are kept aligned straight ahead before and after connecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.


4. REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY

  1. Straighten the front wheels.

  1. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, push open the spring clips and disengage the pins.

  1. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel and support the steering pad with one hand as shown in the illustration.

    NOTICE:
    When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

  1. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the 2 airbag connectors.

    CAUTION:
    When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.

  1. Disconnect the horn connector and remove the steering pad.



5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  1. Remove the nut and place matchmarks on the steering wheel and steering column.

  1. Using SST, remove the steering wheel.

    09950-50013(09951-05010,09952-05010,09953-05020,09954-05021)
    NOTICE:
    Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (center bolt) before use.


6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  1. Remove the nut and place matchmarks on the steering wheel and steering column.

  1. Using SST, remove the steering wheel.

    09950-50013(09951-05010,09952-05010,09953-05020,09954-05021)
    NOTICE:
    Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (center bolt) before use.


7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for LHD)

  1. Detach the 4 claws, release the tilt lever and remove the lower steering column cover.

  1. Detach the claw and remove the upper steering column cover.



8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for RHD)

  1. Detach the 4 claws, release the tilt lever and remove the steering column cover lower.

  1. Detach the claw and remove the steering column cover upper.



9. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  1. Rise the steering column cover (upper).

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.

  1. Detach the 4 clips and remove the column cover (upper).

  1. Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable.



10. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  1. Rise the steering column cover (upper).

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.

  1. Detach the 4 clips and remove the column cover (upper).

  1. Detach the 3 claws and remove the spiral cable.



11. REMOVE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR

  1. Detach the 6 claws and remove the sensor from the spiral cable.
