Transfer Case Oil Seal (For Rh Side) -- Replacement |
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
- NOTICE:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. DRAIN MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL (for Manual Transaxle) |
Remove the filler plug and gasket.
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 39 N*m{398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf}
3. DRAIN TRANSFER OIL |
Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
- Torque:
- 39 N*m{398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf}
4. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH |
Squeeze the ends of the snap ring, and remove the snap ring from the bearing bracket.

Remove the bearing bracket bolt and front drive shaft from the bearing bracket.
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal.
- Do not damage the boot.
- Do not allow the drive shaft to fall off.
- HINT:
- If the connection is stiff, use a brass bar and hammer to lightly tap the edge of the inboard joint RH and remove it.
5. REMOVE DRIVE SHAFT BEARING BRACKET |
Remove the 3 bolts and bracket from the transaxle.
6. REMOVE TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL (for RH Side) |

Using SST, tap out the oil seal from the transfer.
- SST
- 09308-00010
7. INSTALL TRANSFER CASE OIL SEAL (for RH Side) |

Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.
- SST
- 09316-60011(09316-00011)
- Standard depth:
- 7.5 to 8.5 mm (0.30 to 0.33 in.)
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal lip.
Coat a new oil seal lip with MP grease.
8. INSTALL DRIVE SHAFT BEARING BRACKET |
Install the bracket to the transaxle with the 3 bolt.
- Torque:
- 64 N*m{653 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf}
9. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH |
Coat the splines of the inboard joint shaft with gear oil.
Align the shaft splines and securely insert the drive shaft.
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the oil seal.
Squeeze the ends of the snap ring and install it to the bearing bracket.

Install a new bearing bracket bolt.
- Torque:
- 32 N*m{330 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf}
10. ADD TRANSFER OIL |
11. INSPECT TRANSFER OIL |
Remove the transfer case plug No. 2 (for filler) and gasket.

Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.20 in.) from the bottom lip of the case plug (for filler) hole.
If the result is not as specified, add transfer oil.- Oil grade:
- Hypoid gear oil SX API GL-5 or equivalent
- Viscosity:
- SAE 85W-90
- Standard capacity:
- 0.45 liter (0.48 US qts, 0.40 Imp. qts)
- NOTICE:
- When adding oil, pour it slowly.
- Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.
When the oil level is too low, check for oil leakage.
Install a new gasket into the case plug (for filler) and then install the plug.
- Torque:
- 39 N*m{398 kgf*cm, 28 ft.*lbf}
12. ADD MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL (for Manual Transaxle) |
13. INSPECT MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL (for Manual Transaxle) |
Stop the vehicle in a level place.
Remove the transaxle filler plug and gasket.
Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.20 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug opening. If the result is not as specified, add transaxle oil.
- Oil grade:
- GL-4
- Viscosity:
- SAE 75W
- Standard capacity:
- 2.5 liters (2.6 US qts, 2.2 Imp. qts)
- NOTICE:
- Too much or too little oil will lead to transaxle problems.
- After adjusting the oil level, drive the vehicle and check the oil level again.

Check for oil leakage if the oil level is low.
Install the transaxle filler plug and a new gasket.
- Torque:
- 49 N*m{500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf}
14. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
