  1. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY

  3. INSPECT OIL PRESSURE

Lubrication System -- On-Vehicle Inspection



1. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

  1. Warm up the engine, and then stop the engine and wait for 5 minutes.

  1. Check that the oil level is between the dipstick low level mark and full level mark.
    If the level is low, check for leakage and add oil up to the full level mark.

    NOTICE:
    Do not fill with engine oil above the full level mark.


2. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY

  1. Check the oil for deterioration, water contamination, discoloration or thinning.
    If the quality is visibly poor, replace the engine oil and oil filter.



3. INSPECT OIL PRESSURE

  1. Remove the oil pressure switch (RAV4_ACA30 RM000002ZA8028X_01_0001.html).

  1. Install an oil pressure gauge.

  1. Warm up the engine.

  1. Measure the oil pressure.

    Standard Oil Pressure:
    Item
    		Specified Condition
    Idle
    		25 kPa (0.3 kgf/cm2, 3.6 psi) or higher
    3000 rpm
    		150 to 400 kPa (1.5 to 4.1 kgf/cm2, 22 to 58 psi)
    If the oil pressure is not as specified, check the oil pump (RAV4_ACA30 RM00000259I01SX.html).

  1. Remove the oil pressure gauge.

  1. Install the oil pressure switch (RAV4_ACA30 RM000002ZA5028X_01_0001.html).

  1. Check for engine oil leaks.
