DTC P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit


DESCRIPTION

To reduce HC emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through a charcoal canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders.
The ECM changes the duty signals to the purge VSV so that the intake amount of HC emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (ACTIVATE THE PURGE VSV CONTROL)

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Remove the vacuum hose of the purge VSV from the charcoal canister.

  1. Start the engine and turn the tester ON.

  1. Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control.

  1. When the purge VSV is operated using the intelligent tester, check whether the disconnected hose applies suction to your finger.

    OK:
    Tester Operation
    Specified Condition
    VSV is ON
    Disconnected hose applies suction to finger
    VSV is OFF
    Disconnected hose applies no suction to finger

2.INSPECT PURGE VSV

  1. Disconnect the B2 purge VSV connector.

  1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the purge VSV.

    Standard resistance:
    23 to 26 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
  1. Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

3.INSPECT PURGE VSV (POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE)

  1. Disconnect the B2 purge VSV connector.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

  1. Measure the voltage between the terminal of the wire harness side connector and body ground.

    Standard voltage:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Purge VSV (B2-1) - Body ground
    9 to 14 V
  1. Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - INTEGRATION RELAY)

  1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

  1. Disconnect the B2 purge VSV connector.

  1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Purge VSV (B2-1) - Engine room No. 1 relay block (1A-4)
    Below 1 Ω
    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Purge VSV (B2-1) or Engine room No. 1 relay block (1A-4) - Body ground
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reinstall the integration relay.

  1. Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

  1. Disconnect the B32 ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Purge VSV (B2-2) - PRG (B32-49)
    Below 1 Ω
    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Purge VSV (B2-2) or PRG (B32-49) - Body ground
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reconnect the purge VSV connector.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.
