Lighting System -- System Description |
AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM (w/ Automatic Light Control System) |
When the headlight dimmer switch is in the AUTO position, the automatic light control system detects ambient light levels and controls the headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights and license plate lights.
LIGHT AUTO TURN-OFF SYSTEM (for European Models) |
The light auto turn-off system is used to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights on.
The lights that turn off vary as shown in the table below according to the position of the headlight dimmer switch.
Switch Condition
| Outline
|
Headlight dimmer switch in AUTO position
| When the headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights are on, this system automatically turns them off when the delay time set through the customize function elapses after the ignition switch is turned off and a door or the glass hatch is opened and closed.
|
Headlight dimmer switch in head position
| When the headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights are on, this system automatically turns off the headlights and front fog lights when the ignition switch is turned off.
- HINT:
- The rear fog lights, taillights, clearance lights and license plate lights remain on.
|
Headlight dimmer switch in tail position
| When the fog lights, taillights, clearance lights and license plate lights are on, this system automatically turns off the front fog lights when the ignition switch is turned off.
- HINT:
- The rear fog lights, taillights, clearance lights and license plate lights remain on.
|
LIGHT AUTO TURN-OFF SYSTEM (except European Models) |
The light auto turn-off system is used to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights on.
The lights that turn off vary as shown in the table below according to the status of the exterior lights.
Condition

|
Headlights are illuminated
| When the headlights, fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights are on, this system automatically turns them off when the delay time set through the customize function elapses after the ignition switch is turned off and a door or the glass hatch is opened and closed.
|
Headlights are not illuminated and taillights are illuminated
| When the fog lights, taillights, clearance lights or license plate lights are on, this system automatically turns them off when the ignition switch is turned off and the driver door is opened.
|
HEADLIGHT ON SYSTEM (w/ Headlight ON System) [for Halogen Headlight] |
The headlight ON system is designed to automatically illuminate the low beams during the daytime to make the vehicle more visible to other vehicles.
- This system is controlled by the main body ECU.
- This system is enabled when the following conditions are met:
- The ignition switch is ON.
- The engine speed signal is input (the engine is running).
- Headlight dimmer switch is in the off, or AUTO position (and the low beam headlights are not turned on via the automatic light control system).
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM (w/ Daytime Running Light) [for LED, except China] |
The daytime running light system is designed to automatically illuminate the daytime running light during the daytime to make the vehicle more visible to other vehicles.
- This system is controlled by the main body ECU.
- This system is enabled when the following conditions are met:
- The ignition switch is ON.
- The engine speed signal is input (the engine is running).
- Headlight dimmer switch is in the off or AUTO position (the taillights are not illuminated).
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM (w/ Daytime Running Light) [for LED, for China] |
The daytime running light system is designed to automatically illuminate the during the daytime to make the vehicle more visible to other vehicles.
- The illumination of the low beam headlights, taillights, front position lights and license plate lights is prohibited.
- This system is controlled by the main body ECU.
- This system is enabled when the following conditions are met:
- The ignition switch is ON.
- The engine speed signal is input (the engine is running).
- Headlight dimmer switch is in the AUTO position (the taillights are not illuminated).
AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM (w/ Automatic Headlight Beam Level Control System) |
- *1: w/o Air Suspension System
- *2: w/ Air Suspension System
General
When the low beam headlights are on, the automatic headlight beam level control system operates the headlight leveling motor in accordance with the movement of the vehicle. The headlight swivel ECU controls the system.
Function of Main Components
Component
| Outline
|
Headlight Swivel ECU Assembly
| Receives various signals, calculates changes in the vehicle posture and actuates the headlight leveling motor.
|
Headlight Leveling Motor
| - Based on the signals received from the headlight swivel ECU, the motors move the reflectors in the headlights to vary the low beam angle.
- Uses a stepper motor to precisely regulate the angle of the reflectors.
|
Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly*1 Suspension Control ECU*2
| Transmits a height control sensor signal to the headlight swivel ECU.
|
Skid Control ECU
| Transmits a speed sensor signal (front LH and RH) to the headlight swivel ECU.
|
ECM
| Transmits an engine running status signal to the headlight swivel ECU.
|
Main Body ECU
| Transmits a headlight status signal.
|
Combination Meter Assembly
| Headlight Beam Level Control System Warning Light
| When the system malfunctions, the combination meter assembly alerts the driver by flashing the headlight beam level control system warning light in accordance with the signal from the headlight swivel ECU.
|
Initial Set Control
When the engine is started, the headlight swivel ECU drives the headlight leveling motor and moves the headlight reflector to its lower operational limit, and then returns it to the proper position. The headlight swivel ECU thus assesses the position of the headlight for reference control.
- NOTICE:
- Initialize the headlight swivel ECU after the headlight swivel ECU is replaced.
- If the vehicle is not equipped with the air suspension system, initialize the headlight swivel ECU (set the zero point of the height control sensor in the headlight swivel ECU) after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of suspension components or after performing such operations as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly.
MANUAL HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM (w/ Manual Headlight Beam Level Control System) |
When the vehicle posture changes in accordance with the number (weight) of passengers and volume of luggage, this system enables the adjustment of the low beam level (11 steps) of the headlights manually to the appropriate level based on the position of the headlight leveling switch.
- The beam level of the headlight can be adjusted by the headlight leveling motor that is installed in the headlight assembly.
- The headlight leveling switch allows the driver to control this system.
