Steering Gear Removal


  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  2. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS

  3. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY

  4. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

  5. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  6. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

  7. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  8. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  9. REMOVE RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

Steering Gear -- Removal


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
  2. The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.


1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD


2. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS


3. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY

  1. for 1GR-FE:
    Remove the engine (LandCruiser RM000002B5L026X.html).

  1. for 1KD-FTV:
    Remove the engine (LandCruiser RM0000045F8014X.html).

  1. for 5L-E:
    Remove the engine (LandCruiser RM000000FYL01SX.html).

  1. for 2TR-FE:
    Remove the engine (LandCruiser RM00000463700IX.html).

  1. for 1GD-FTV:
    Remove the engine (LandCruiser RM000005UTW000X.html)



4. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

  1. for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
    Disconnect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft (LandCruiser RM0000039SI030X.html).

  1. for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
    Disconnect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft (LandCruiser RM0000039SI031X.html).



5. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end assembly.

6. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
HINT:
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.


7. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  1. Remove the clamp and disconnect the pressure feed tube (return tube side) from the steering gear.

  1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the pressure feed tube (pressure feed tube side) from the steering gear.



  1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the pressure feed tube clamp.

8. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  1. Remove the clamp and disconnect the pressure feed tube (return tube side) from the steering gear.

  1. Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the pressure feed tube (pressure feed tube side) from the steering gear.



  1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the pressure feed tube clamp.

9. REMOVE RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and steering gear assembly.

    NOTICE:
    Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Tighten the bolt with the nut fixed in place.
