Oil And Oil Filter -- Replacement

CAUTION:
  1. Prolonged and repeated contact with engine oil will result in the removal of natural oils from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.
  2. Precautions should be taken when replacing engine oil to minimize the risk of your skin making contact with used engine oil. Protective clothing and gloves that cannot be penetrated by oil should be worn. The skin should be washed with soap and water, or use waterless hand cleaner, to remove any used engine oil thoroughly. Do not use gasoline, thinners or solvents.
  3. In order to protect the environment, used oil and used oil filters must be disposed of at designated disposal sites.

1. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER SEAL
  1. Remove the 2 bolts and engine under cover seal.

2. DRAIN ENGINE OIL
  1. Remove the oil filler cap.

  1. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket, and then drain the engine oil into a container.

  1. Wipe the oil pan and drain plug.

  1. Install a new gasket and the oil pan drain plug.

4. INSTALL OIL FILTER SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Check and clean the oil filter installation surface.

  1. Apply clean engine oil to the gasket of a new oil filter.

  1. Lightly screw the oil filter into place by hand. Tighten it until the gasket contacts the seat.

    1. If enough space is available, use a torque wrench to tighten the oil filter.

      Torque:
      17 N*m{173 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf}
    2. If enough space is not available to use a torque wrench, tighten the oil filter 3/4 of a turn by hand or with a common wrench.

5. ADD ENGINE OIL
  1. Add new engine oil.

    Standard Oil Grade:

    Oil Grade
    Oil Viscosity (SAE)
    G-DLD1, API CF-4, CF or ACEA B1
(You may also use API CE or CD)
    - 5W-30
    - 10W-30
    - 15W-40
    - 20W-50

    Standard Capacity:

7.5 liters (7.9 US qts, 6.6 Imp. qts)
  1. Install the oil filler cap.

6. INSPECT FOR OIL LEAK
  1. Start the engine. Make sure that there are no oil leaks from the areas that were worked on.

7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER SEAL
  1. Install the engine under cover seal with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    29 N*m{296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf}

8. INSPECT ENGINE OIL LEVEL
  1. Warm up the engine, stop the engine and wait 5 minutes. The engine oil level should be between the dipstick low level mark and full level mark.
If low, check for leakage and add oil up to the full level mark.

    NOTICE:
Do not fill engine oil above the full level mark.
    HINT:
A certain amount of engine oil will be consumed while driving. In the following situations, engine oil consumption may increase, and engine oil may need to be refilled in between oil maintenance intervals.
    1. When the engine is new, for example directly after purchasing the vehicle or after replacing the engine.
    2. If low quality engine oil or oil of an inappropriate viscosity is used.
    3. When driving at high engine speed or with a heavy load, when towing, or when driving while accelerating or decelerating frequently.
    4. When leaving the engine idling for a long time, or when driving frequently through heavy traffic.
When judging the amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil may have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.
