Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Installation

Apply a light coat of MP grease to the lip of a new rear engine oil seal.

NOTICE:

1. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the lip of the rear engine oil seal.
   
2. Do not allow MP grease to contact the dust seal.
   

Using SST and a hammer, tap in the rear engine oil seal until its surface is flush with the rear engine oil seal retainer edge.

NOTICE:

1. Wipe off any extra grease from the crankshaft.
   
2. Do not tap in the rear engine oil seal at an angle.
   

Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

Install the front drive plate spacer, drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and rear drive plate spacer to the crankshaft.

HINT:

1. The front drive plate spacer is reversible.
   
2. As the rear drive plate spacer and drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly are not reversible, be sure to install it so that it is facing in the direction shown in the illustration.
   

Clean the bolts and bolt holes.

Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the end of each of the 10 bolts.

Adhesive:

Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

Install and uniformly tighten the 10 bolts in several steps in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Torque:

74 N*m{755 kgf*cm, 55 ft.*lbf}

NOTICE:

Do not start the engine for at least an hour after installing the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly.

Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

Clean the bolt holes.

Install the flywheel sub-assembly with 10 new bolts and uniformly tighten the bolts in several steps in the sequence shown in the illustration.

Torque:

27 N*m{270 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf}

Mark the top of the bolts with paint.

Tighten the 10 bolts 90° in the same sequence.

Check that the paint marks are now at a 90° angle to the top.

Insert SST into the clutch disc. Then insert SST (together with the clutch disc) into the flywheel to install the clutch disc.

NOTICE:

Be sure to install the clutch disc so that it is facing in the correct direction.

Align the matchmarks on the clutch cover and flywheel.

Tighten the 6 bolts uniformly in the order shown in the illustration, starting with the bolt located near the knock pin on the top.

Torque:

19 N*m{194 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf}

HINT:

Move SST up and down, and right and left lightly after checking that the clutch disc assembly is in the center, and then tighten the bolts.

Using a dial indicator with a roller instrument, measure the diaphragm spring tip alignment.

Maximum non-alignment:

0.5 mm (0.0196 in.)

1. If the alignment is more than the maximum, use SST to adjust the diaphragm spring tip alignment.
