DTC P0010 Camshaft Position "A" Actuator Circuit (Bank 1) |
DESCRIPTION
- This DTC is designed to detect opens or shorts in the camshaft timing oil control valve circuit. If the camshaft timing oil control valve duty cycle is excessively high or low while the engine is running, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store the DTC.
- The VVT (variable valve timing) system adjusts the intake valve timing to improve driveability. The engine oil pressure turns the camshaft timing gear to adjust the valve timing. The camshaft timing oil control valve is a solenoid valve and switches the engine oil line. The valve moves when the ECM applies 12 V to the solenoid. The ECM changes the energizing time of the solenoid (duty cycle) in accordance with the camshaft position, crankshaft position, throttle position, etc.

- HINT:
- This DTC relates to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side).
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The ECM optimizes the valve timing using the VVT system to control the intake camshaft. The VVT system includes the ECM, the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side) and the camshaft timing gear. The ECM sends a target duty-cycle control signal to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side). This control signal regulates the oil pressure supplied to the camshaft timing gear. The camshaft timing gear can advance or retard the intake camshaft. After the ECM sends the target duty-cycle signal to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side), the ECM monitors the camshaft timing oil control valve current to establish an actual duty-cycle. The ECM determines the existence of a malfunction and stores the DTC when the actual duty-cycle ratio varies from the target duty-cycle ratio.
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
- Wait 5 seconds or more.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Read the pending DTCs.
- HINT:
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P0010.
- Check the DTC judgment result.
GTS Display
| Description
|
NORMAL
| - DTC judgment completed
- System normal
|
ABNORMAL
| - DTC judgment completed
- System abnormal
|
INCOMPLETE
| - DTC judgment completed
- Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions
|
N/A
| - Unable to perform DTC judgment

- HINT:
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
Clear the DTCs after recording the freeze frame data and DTCs (LandCruiser RM000000VNG00DX.html).
Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
Start the engine and allow it to idle. Then check for DTCs.
Check that P0010 is not output.
- OK:
- P0010 is not output.
2.INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR INTAKE SIDE) |
Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side) (LandCruiser RM000000Q74059X.html).
3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM) |
Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side) connector.
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
