DTC P0490 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High |
DESCRIPTION
The EGR actuator is operated by the ECM and opens and closes the EGR valve using gears. The opening angle of the EGR valve is detected by the EGR position sensor, which is mounted on the electric EGR control valve assembly.P0489DTC Detection Drive Pattern
| DTC Detection Condition
| Trouble Area
|
Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more
| Both of the following conditions are met for 2.0 seconds: (1 trip detection logic)
- The EGR actuator duty cycle is 80% or higher.
- EGR actuator current is below 0.5 A.
| - Open or short in EGR actuator circuit
- Electric EGR control valve assembly
- ECM

WIRING DIAGRAM
Refer to DTC P042E (LandCruiser RM000004KMK023X_03.html).
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- NOTICE:
- After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (LandCruiser RM0000012XK0AUX.html) and initialization (LandCruiser RM000000TIN08HX.html).
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.INSPECT ELECTRIC EGR CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY |
Remove the electric EGR control valve assembly (LandCruiser RM000005UJR000X.html).
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection
| Condition
| Specified Condition
|
5 (M-) - 4 (M+)
| Always
| No short or open circuit
|

|
2.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY - ECM) |
Disconnect the electric EGR valve assembly connector.
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection
| Condition
| Specified Condition
|
C127-4 (M+) - C151-6 (EGM+)
| Always
| Below 1 Ω
|
C127-5 (M-) - C151-7 (EGM-)
| Always
| Below 1 Ω
|
C127-4 (M+) or C151-6 (EGM+) - Body ground and other terminals
| Always
| 10 kΩ or higher
|
C127-5 (M-) or C151-7 (EGM-) - Body ground and other terminals
| Always
| 10 kΩ or higher
|
Reconnect the electric EGR valve assembly connector.
Reconnect the ECM connector.
Replace the ECM (LandCruiser RM0000013Z002DX.html).
4.REPLACE ELECTRIC EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY |
Replace the electric EGR valve assembly (LandCruiser RM000005UJR000X.html).
5.REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR |
Repair or replace the harness or connector.
6.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED |
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Clear the DTCs (LandCruiser RM000000PDK1E5X.html).
Turn the engine switch off for 30 seconds or more.
Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.
Start the engine.
Idle the engine for 5 seconds or more
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
