DESCRIPTION

The throttle actuator is operated by the ECM and opens and closes the throttle valve using gears. The opening angle of the throttle valve is detected by the throttle position sensor, which is mounted on the throttle body. The throttle position sensor provides feedback to the ECM so that the ECM can control the throttle actuator (throttle valve) appropriately in response to driver inputs.

This ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control System) does not use a throttle cable.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM determines that there is a malfunction in the ETCS when the throttle valve remains at a fixed angle despite a high drive current from the ECM. The ECM illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC.
If the malfunction is not repaired successfully, a DTC is stored when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed and released quickly (to fully open and close the throttle valve) after the engine is next started.

FAIL-SAFE

When either of these DTCs or other DTCs relating to ETCS (Electronic Throttle Control System) malfunctions are stored, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the ECM cuts the current to the throttle actuator and the throttle valve is returned to a 7° throttle angle by the return spring. The ECM then adjusts the engine output by controlling the fuel injection (intermittent fuel-cut) and ignition timing in accordance with the accelerator pedal position to allow the vehicle to continue at a minimal speed. If the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and gently, the vehicle can be driven slowly.
The ECM continues operating in fail-safe mode until a pass condition is detected, and the engine switch is then turned off.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
1.CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2111 OR P2112)

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the GTS on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  1. Read the DTCs.

2.INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY (VISUALLY CHECK THROTTLE VALVE)

  1. Check for contamination between the throttle valve and housing. If necessary, clean the throttle body. Also, check that the throttle valve moves smoothly.

    OK:
    Throttle valve is not contaminated with foreign objects and moves smoothly.

3.READ VALUE USING GTS (THROTTLE POSITION)

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the GTS on.

  1. Clear the DTCs (LandCruiser RM000000PDK1DIX.html).

  1. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Position No. 1, Throttle Position No. 2 and Throttle Position Command.

  1. Check the values displayed on the GTS while wiggling the ECM wire harness.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  1. Check for DTCs.

4.REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY)

  1. As the DTC was stored due to a change in the contact resistance of the connector, repair or replace the wire harness or connector (LandCruiser RM000003YMJ00XX.html).

  1. Replace the throttle body assembly (LandCruiser RM000000Q0P050X.html).

    HINT:
    for Automatic Transmission
    Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the throttle body (LandCruiser RM000004NJC03SX.html).

6.CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2111 OR P2112)

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the GTS on.

  1. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  1. Start the engine and fully depress and release the accelerator pedal quickly (to fully open and close the throttle valve).

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

  1. Read the DTCs.
