DESCRIPTION
There may be an open circuit in the CAN main wire and/or the DLC3 branch wire when the resistance between terminals 6 (CANH) and 14 (CANL) of the DLC3 is 70 Ω or higher.Symptom
| Trouble Area
|
Resistance between terminals 6 (CANH) and 14 (CANL) of DLC3 is 70 Ω or higher.
| - CAN main wire and connector
- No. 1 junction connector
- No. 2 junction connector
- No. 3 junction connector
- ECM
- DLC3 branch wire or connector

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- HINT:
- Operating the ignition switch, any switches or any doors triggers related ECU and sensor communication with the CAN, which causes resistance variation.
1.DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL |
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal before measuring the resistances of the main wire and the branch wire.
- CAUTION:
- For vehicles with SRS:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- NOTICE:
- When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Toyota Fortuner RM000002HD2006X.html).
2.CHECK OPEN IN CAN BUS MAIN WIRE (NO. 3 JUNCTION CONNECTOR - DLC3) |
Disconnect the J51 No. 3 junction connector connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection
| Switch Condition
| Specified Condition
|
J51-2 (CANH) - D3-6 (CANH)
| Ignition switch off
| Below 1 Ω
|
J51-1 (CANL) - D3-14 (CANL)
| Ignition switch off
| Below 1 Ω
|
| REPAIR OR REPLACE CAN BRANCH WIRE CONNECTED TO DLC3 (CANH, CANL) |
