Vane Pump (For 5L-E) Reassembly

Coat the lip of a new vane pump housing oil seal with power steering fluid.

Using SST and a press, press in the vane pump housing oil seal to the front vane pump housing.

NOTICE:

Make sure that the vane pump housing oil seal is installed in the correct direction as shown in the illustration.

Coat the inside surface of the bushing in the front vane pump housing with power steering fluid.

Gradually insert the vane pump shaft from the pulley side.

Install the vane pump rotor.

HINT:

The vane pump rotor has no specific direction.

Using a snap ring expander, install a new vane pump shaft snap ring to the vane pump shaft.

Coat all 10 vane pump plates with power steering fluid.

Install each vane pump plate with the round end facing outward.

NOTICE:

Make sure that the vane pump plates are installed in the correct direction.

Align the holes of the vane pump cam ring with the 2 straight pins, and install the vane pump cam ring with the inscribed mark facing upward.

NOTICE:

Make sure that the cam ring is installed in the correct direction.

Coat a new O-ring with power steering fluid and install it onto the vane pump rear side plate.

Align the groove of the cam ring with that of the vane pump rear side plate, and install the vane pump rear side plate.

Install the wave washer so that its protrusions fit into the slots in the vane pump rear side plate.

Install a new gasket.

Coat a new O-ring with power steering fluid and install it into the vane pump rear housing.

Install the vane pump rear housing with the 4 bolts.

Torque:

24 N*m{245 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf}

Check that the pump rotates smoothly without abnormal noise.

Temporarily install the vane pump pulley set nut to the vane pump shaft.

Using a torque wrench, measure the rotating torque.

Standard rotating torque:

0.27 N*m (2.8 kgf*cm, 2.4 in.*lbf) or less

Coat the compression spring and flow control valve with power steering fluid.

Install the compression spring and flow control valve.

Coat a new O-ring with power steering fluid and install it onto the pressure port union.

Install the pressure port union to the vane pump front housing.

Torque:

83 N*m{846 kgf*cm, 61 ft.*lbf}

Coat a new O-ring with power steering fluid and install it to the suction port union.

Install the suction port union to the vane pump front housing with the bolt.

Torque:

13 N*m{133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf}
