Steering Knuckle Installation


  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB ASSEMBLY

  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL (for 4WD)

  3. INSTALL KNUCKLE GREASE RETAINER CAP LH (for Pre-Runner)

  4. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH

  5. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH ATTACHMENT LH

  6. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  7. CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

  8. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD)

  9. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP (for 4WD)

  10. INSTALL FRONT DISC

  11. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

  12. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS)

  13. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE LINE

  14. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR

  15. CHECK FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE

  16. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

Steering Knuckle -- Installation


HINT:
  1. Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
  2. The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
  3. A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart (Toyota Fortuner RM00000118W017X.html).


1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB ASSEMBLY


Toyota Fortuner. Ggn50, 60 Kun51, 61 Tgn51 Lan50.Axle.Steering Knuckle.Steering Knuckle Installation

  1. Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

  1. Install the O-ring to the axle hub.

  1. Install the dust cover and axle hub to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.

    Torque:
    80 N*m{816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf}


2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL (for 4WD)

  1. Using SST and a press, press in a new dust seal.

3. INSTALL KNUCKLE GREASE RETAINER CAP LH (for Pre-Runner)

  1. Using a brass bar and hammer, install a new retainer cap.

    NOTICE:
    Do not damage the retainer cap.


4. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Connect the upper arm with the nut.

    Torque:
    110 N*m{1,122 kgf*cm, 81 ft.*lbf}

  1. Install a new cotter pin.

    NOTICE:
    If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.


5. CONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH ATTACHMENT LH

  1. Connect the suspension arm with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    160 N*m{1,632 kgf*cm, 118 ft.*lbf}


6. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH


Toyota Fortuner. Ggn50, 60 Kun51, 61 Tgn51 Lan50

  1. Connect the tie rod end with the nut.

    Torque:
    91 N*m{928 kgf*cm, 67 ft.*lbf}

  1. Install a new cotter pin.

    NOTICE:
    If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.


7. CONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Connect the stabilizer link with the nut.

    Torque:
    70 N*m{714 kgf*cm, 52 ft.*lbf}
    HINT:
    If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.


8. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD)

  1. Install the hub nut.

    Torque:
    235 N*m{2,396 kgf*cm, 173 ft.*lbf}

  1. Install the lock cap and a new cotter pin.

    NOTICE:
    If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.


9. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP (for 4WD)

  1. Install a new grease cap to the axle hub.



10. INSTALL FRONT DISC


11. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Install the disc brake cylinder with the 2 bolts.

    Torque:
    123 N*m{1,254 kgf*cm, 91 ft.*lbf}

  1. Connect the brake tube bracket to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

    Torque:
    29 N*m{296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf}

  1. Using SST, connect the brake tube to the disc brake cylinder.

    SST
    09023-00101
    Torque:
    15 N*m{155 kgf*cm, 11 ft.*lbf} for use without SST
    14 N*m{143 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf} for use with SST
    HINT:
    Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).


12. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS)


Toyota Fortuner. Ggn50, 60 Kun51, 61 Tgn51 Lan50

  1. Install the speed sensor with the bolt.

  1. Connect the 2 clamps.

    Torque:
    8.5 N*m{87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf}

  1. Connect the speed sensor wire harness to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

    Torque:
    32 N*m{326 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf}


13. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE LINE

  1. Bleed air from the brake line (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HJ2006X.html).



14. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR

  1. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir (Toyota Fortuner RM000001JEW001X.html).



15. CHECK FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE

  1. Check for brake fluid leakage (Toyota Fortuner RM000001JEW001X.html).



16. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque:
105 N*m{1,071 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf}
