Steering Knuckle -- Removal |
- HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH and LH side.
- The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
| 1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL |
| 2. REMOVE FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH (w/ ABS) |
 |
Disconnect the 2 clamps.
Remove the bolt and disconnect the speed sensor wire harness from the steering knuckle.
Remove the bolt and speed sensor.
| 3. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH |
 |
Remove the bolt and disconnect the brake tube bracket from the steering knuckle.
Using SST, disconnect the brake tube from the disc brake cylinder.

Remove the 2 bolts and disc brake cylinder.
 |
| 4. REMOVE FRONT DISC |
| 5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP (for 4WD) |
 |
Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove the grease cap.
- NOTICE:
- Do not damage the axle hub.
| 6. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT (for 4WD) |
 |
Remove the cotter pin and lock cap.
Remove the hub nut.
| 7. DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH |
 |
Remove the nut and disconnect the stabilizer link from the steering knuckle.
- HINT:
- If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.
| 8. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH |
 |
Remove the cotter pin and nut.
Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

| 9. DISCONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH ATTACHMENT LH |

Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the front suspension arm from the steering knuckle.
| 10. DISCONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY |
 |
Remove the cotter pin and nut.
Using SST, disconnect the steering knuckle from the suspension upper arm.

| 11. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL (for 4WD) |
 |
Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap out the dust seal.
| 12. REMOVE KNUCKLE GREASE RETAINER CAP LH (for Pre-Runner) |
 |
Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove the knuckle grease retainer cap.
| 13. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB ASSEMBLY |
 |
Remove the 4 bolts, dust cover and axle hub from the steering knuckle.
Remove the O-ring from the axle hub.
