Rear Differential Carrier Assembly (For Dana Made) -- Installation |
| 1. INSTALL REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY |
- NOTICE:
- Before installing the seal packing, remove ignition source from the vicinity.
- Do not allow seal packing to contact any unnecessary areas.
- When installing the seal packing, wear appropriate protective equipment.
- When storing seal packing, keep it away from direct sunlight and high temperature areas.
- After applying seal packing to the axle housing and gasket, wait 1 to 4 minutes before installing them to the differential carrier.
Clean the contact surfaces of the differential carrier and axle housing.
- NOTICE:
- Be careful not to damage the installation surface.
Apply seal packing to the rear axle housing.
- Seal packing:
- Toyota Genuine Seal Packing 1281, Three Bond 1281 or equivalent
Apply seal packing to the differential carrier.
- Seal packing:
- Toyota Genuine Seal Packing 1281, Three Bond 1281 or equivalent
Install the differential carrier and a new gasket with the 10 nuts and washers.
- Torque:
- 21 N*m{214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf}
- NOTICE:
- Be careful to install the gasket without tearing it.
- After drying of the seal packing (after approximately 90 minutes), retighten the 10 nuts to specified torque.

Install the axle shaft oil seal (Toyota Fortuner RM000000ZZT005X.html).
| 4. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT WITH BACKING PLATE LH |
Install the axle shaft with backing plate (Toyota Fortuner RM000000ZZT005X.html).
| 5. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT WITH BACKING PLATE RH |
Install the axle shaft with backing plate (Toyota Fortuner RM000000ZZT005X.html).
| 6. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE |
Install the parking brake cable (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HKD001X.html).
| 7. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR LH |
Install the speed sensor (Toyota Fortuner RM0000010JQ003X.html).
| 8. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR RH |
Install the speed sensor (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HKD001X.html).
| 9. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LH |
Install the parking brake shoe (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HJY005X.html).
| 10. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE RH |
Install the parking brake shoe (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HJY005X.html).
| 11. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL RETURN SPRING LH |
Install the return spring (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HJY005X.html).

| 13. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION |
Check the installation of the parking brake (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HKG001X.html).
| 14. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE LINE |
Bleed air from brake line (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HJ2006X.html).
| 15. CHECK FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR |
Check the fluid level in the reservoir (Toyota Fortuner RM000001JEW001X.html).
| 16. CHECK FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE |
Check for brake fluid leakage (Toyota Fortuner RM000001HJ2006X.html).
| 17. REFILL DIFFERENTIAL OIL |
Refill the differential oil (Toyota Fortuner RM0000010MD00AX.html).
| 18. CHECK FOR DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAKAGE |
Inspect and adjust the differential oil (Toyota Fortuner RM0000010MD00AX.html).
