Pre-Heating System -- On-Vehicle Inspection |
1. CHECK ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT |
Check the light illumination duration.
Turn the ignition switch ON, and then measure the light illumination duration.
- Light illumination duration:
- See graph.
- If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, ECT sensor, glow plug and GLOW relay.
- HINT:
- Actual light illumination duration may vary slightly from the graph.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. CHECK PRE-HEATING |
Inspect the pre-heating time.
Turn the ignition switch ON. Measure how long it takes for battery voltage to be applied to the glow plugs.
- Standard pre-heating time:
Engine Coolant Temperature Specified Condition 40°C (104°F) or higher 1 second Below 40°C (104°F) See graph
(maximum: 15 seconds)
- If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, ECT sensor, glow plug and GLOW relay.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Turn the ignition switch to START. Check that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.
While cranking the engine, measure how long it takes for battery voltage to be applied to the glow plugs.
3. CHECK AFTERGLOW TIME |
Check the afterglow time.
After the engine starts, measure how long it takes for battery voltage to be applied to terminals E4-15 (GREL) and E6-7 (E1) of the ECM.
- Standard afterglow time:
Tester Connection Specified Condition E4-15 (GREL) - E6-7 (E1) See graph
- If the result is not as specified, inspect the ECM, ECT sensor, glow plug and GLOW relay.
