SFI SYSTEM - Starter Signal Circuit


DESCRIPTION

While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal STAR of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to the park/neutral position switch assembly and to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
1.CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED

2.READ VALUE USING GTS (STARTER SIGNAL)
  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the GTS on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

  1. Check the value displayed on the GTS when the engine switch is turned to the START.

    OK:
    Engine Switch Position
    Display (Starter Signal)
    Engine switch on (IG)
    Close or OFF
    Engine started
    Open or ON

3.INSPECT STARTER RELAY (ST)
  1. Inspect the starter relay (ST) (Click here).



NG
REPLACE STARTER RELAY (ST)

4.INSPECT STARTER
  1. Inspect the starter (Click here).

5.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - STARTER)
  1. Remove the starter relay (ST) from the engine room relay block.

  1. Disconnect the starter connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:

    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    ST relay (3) - D2-1
    Always
    Below 1 Ω
    ST relay (3) or D2-1 - Body ground
    Always
    10 kΩ or higher

  1. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

  1. Disconnect the smart key ECU assembly connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
