ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM (for 4GR-FSE) - HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
Use these procedures to troubleshoot the engine immobiliser system.
The intelligent tester should be used in steps 3, 4 and 6.
1.VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP |
2.CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS |
3.INSPECT COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (BEAN) |
Use the intelligent tester to check for normal function of the multiplex communication system (BEAN).
(ECU connected, communication line malfunctioning) Without code outputs, proceed to A.
(ECU connected, communication line malfunctioning) With code outputs, proceed to B.

Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output .
Recheck for DTCs. Based on the DTCs output above, try to duplicate the SFI system DTC or engine immobiliser system DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTC.

If the fault is not listed in the problem symptoms table, proceed to A.
If the fault is listed in the problem symptoms table, proceed to B.
