  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (w/ Front Seat Side Airbag)

  2. REMOVE REAR WHEELS

  3. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for Manual Seat)

  4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for Power Seat)

  5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH

  6. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  8. REMOVE NO. 3 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  9. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER

  10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY

  11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER

  12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE END STOPPER

  13. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  14. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for 2ZR-FE)

  15. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for 2AZ-FE)

  16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR

  17. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR

  18. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR

  19. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  20. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE CLAMP

Parking Brake Cable (For Rear Disc Brake) -- Removal


CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000KT10H0X.html).
HINT:
  1. Use the same procedure for the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly and No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
  2. The procedure listed below is for the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.


1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (w/ Front Seat Side Airbag)
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


2. REMOVE REAR WHEELS


3. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for Manual Seat)
HINT:
Refer to the instructions for Removal of the front seat assembly (Link).


4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for Power Seat)
HINT:
Refer to the instructions for Removal of the front seat assembly (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000AR902OX.html).


5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH
HINT:
Perform the same procedure for the LH side.


6. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
HINT:
Refer to the instructions for Removal of the front console box (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000002XV501QX.html).


7. REMOVE NO. 2 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 2 belt anchor reinforcement sub-assembly.



8. REMOVE NO. 3 BELT ANCHOR REINFORCEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Turn back the floor carpet, and remove the 5 bolts and No. 3 belt anchor reinforcement sub-assembly.



9. SEPARATE PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER

  1. Remove the lock nut and loosen the adjusting nut.

  1. Separate the parking brake equalizer from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration.

  1. Separate the parking brake equalizer from the No. 2 parking brake cable assembly.

    HINT:
    Perform the same procedure for the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.


10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and parking brake lever assembly.



11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE EQUALIZER


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Disengage the 2 claws to separate the parking brake cable end stopper from the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.

  1. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the parking brake equalizer from the parking brake cable end stopper.



12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE END STOPPER

  1. Remove the parking brake cable end stopper from the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.



13. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Remove the adjusting nut.

  1. Pull up the parking brake lever claw.



    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Remove the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly.



14. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for 2ZR-FE)

  1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 compression springs.

  1. Remove the front exhaust pipe assembly from the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

  1. Remove the 2 gaskets.



15. REMOVE CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for 2AZ-FE)

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 compression springs.

  1. Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly from the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

  1. Remove the 2 gaskets.



16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR

  1. Remove the 3 nuts and front No. 1 floor heat insulator.



17. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR

  1. Remove the 2 nuts and front No. 2 floor heat insulator.



18. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE LEVER PROTECTOR

  1. Remove the parking brake lever protector from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.



19. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY


    Corolla. Zre142 Aze141

  1. Disengage the clamp from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

  1. Remove the bolt.

  1. Separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  1. Remove the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

    HINT:
    Insert an offset wrench (14 mm) at the base of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration to disengage the clip. Pull out the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  1. Separate the No. 3 parking brake cable clamp.

  1. Remove the bolt and pull out the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the outside of the body.



  1. Remove the 2 bolts and the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.

20. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE CLAMP

  1. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the No. 3 parking brake cable clamp from the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly.
