Steering Column Assembly (For Rhd) Installation

Install the steering column to the instrument panel reinforcement with the 3 bolts.

Torque:

25 N*m{255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf}

Connect all the connectors and attach all wire harness clamps to the steering column.

Install the brake pedal support (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001HJ400GX.html).

Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft and steering sliding yoke and temporarily install them with bolt B.

Torque:

35 N*m{360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf}

Align the matchmarks on the steering sliding yoke and steering gear assembly and install them with bolt A.

Torque:

35 N*m{360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf}

Install the column hole cover silencer sheet with the 2 clips.

Install the floor carpet.

Connect the connector.

NOTICE:

When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

Install the driver side knee airbag with the 4 bolts.

Torque:

10 N*m{101 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf}

Attach the 8 claws to install the lower instrument panel finish panel.

Install the 2 screws.

Attach the 3 claws to install the cover.

Install the 2 screws.

Connect the 2 steering column connectors to the power steering ECU.

Attach the clamps of the power steering motor harness.

Tilt the steering column up and down to make sure that the power steering motor wire harness and torque sensor wire harness do not interfere with any components.

Install the instrument panel (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001RHA00KX.html).

Install the turn signal switch to the steering column with the clamp.

Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.

NOTICE:

Make sure that the turn signal switch is in the neutral position, as the pin of the turn signal switch may be snapped.

Install the spiral cable.

NOTICE:

When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel.

Connect the connectors to the spiral cable.

NOTICE:

When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.

Attach the 4 clips to the column cover (upper).

Install the steering column cover (upper).

Attach the claw to install the steering column cover upper.

Attach the 4 claws to install the steering column cover lower.

Slowly rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise by hand until it feels firm.

NOTICE:

Do not use the airbag wire harness to turn the spiral cable.

Rotate the spiral cable clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.

NOTICE:

Do not use the airbag wire harness to turn the spiral cable.

HINT:

The spiral cable will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to the left and right from the center.

Align the matchmarks and install the steering wheel to the steering column.

Install the nut.

Torque:

50 N*m{510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf}

Connect all the connectors to the spiral cable.

Support the steering pad with one hand as shown in the illustration.

Connect the 2 airbag connectors.

NOTICE:

When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.

Connect the horn connector.

Install the steering pad after confirming that the circumference grooves of the screws are caught on the screw case.

Attach the 2 spring to steering pad.

Inspect SRS warning light (RAV4_ACA30 RM000000XFF05JX.html).
