Differential Oil Seal Replacement

Drain the automatic transaxle fluid.

1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.
   

2. Install a new gasket and drain plug.
   

   Torque:

   47 N*m{479 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf}

Remove the front drive shaft LH (RAV4_ACA30 RM00000226Q008X.html).

Remove the transaxle housing oil seal LH.

1. Using SST, tap out the oil seal.
   

   SST

   09308-00010
   

Install the transaxle housing oil seal LH.

1. Coat the lip of a new oil seal with MP grease.
   

2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.
   

   SST

   09726-27012(09726-02041)
   09950-70010(09951-07200)
   

   Standard depth:

   -0.5 to 0.2 mm (-0.0196 to 0.00787 in.)
   

   NOTICE:

   Do not damage the lip of the oil seal.

Install the front drive shaft LH (RAV4_ACA30 RM00000226O008X.html).

Add automatic transaxle fluid.

Fluid type:

Toyota Genuine ATF WS

Inspect the transaxle fluid level (RAV4_ACA30 RM0000022UI00FX.html).

Remove the engine assembly with transaxle.

1. for 1AZ-FE:
   Remove the engine with transaxle (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001BC300NX.html).
   

2. for 2AZ-FE:
   Remove the engine with transaxle (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001BC300OX.html).
   

Drain the automatic transaxle fluid.

1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.
   

2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
   

   Torque:

   47 N*m{479 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf}

Remove the 3 bolts and drive shaft bearing bracket.

Remove the 3 bolts and engine mount bracket RR.

Remove the transfer assembly (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001W9C009X_01_0003.html).

Remove the transaxle housing oil seal RH (Outside).

1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with vinyl tape, pry out the oil seal.
   

   NOTICE:

   Be careful not to damage the housing.

Remove the transaxle housing oil seal RH (Inside).

1. Using SST, tap out the oil seal.
   

   SST

   NOTICE:

   Be careful not to damage the differential case.

Install the transaxle housing oil seal RH (Inside).

1. Coat the lip of a new oil seal with the MP grease.
   

2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.
   

   SST

   09950-60010(09951-00410)
   09950-70010(09951-07200)
   

   Standard depth:

   27.5 to 28.5 mm (1.09 to 1.12 in.)
   

   NOTICE:

   Do not damage the lip of the oil seal.

Install the transaxle housing oil seal RH (Outside).

1. Coat the lip of a new oil seal with MP grease.
   

2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal.
   

   SST

   09649-17010
   09950-70010(09951-07200)
   

   Standard depth:

   5.5 to 6.5 mm (0.217 to 0.255 in.)
   

   NOTICE:

   Do not damage the lip of the oil seal.

Install the transfer assembly (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001W9A009X_01_0008.html).

Install the engine mount bracket RR with the 3 bolts.

Torque:

64 N*m{652 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf}

Install the drive shaft bearing bracket with the 3 bolts.

Torque:

64 N*m{653 kgf*cm, 47 ft.*lbf}

Install the engine assembly with transaxle.

1. for 1AZ-FE:
   Install the engine with transaxle (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001BC100NX.html).
   

2. for 2AZ-FE:
   Install the engine with transaxle (RAV4_ACA30 RM000001BC100OX.html).
   

Add automatic transaxle fluid.

Fluid type:

Toyota Genuine ATF WS

Inspect the fluid level (RAV4_ACA30 RM0000022UI00FX.html).
