Steering Gear Installation


  1. INSTALL RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY

  2. CONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

  3. CONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

  4. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  5. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

  6. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

  7. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY

  8. ADD POWER STEERING FLUID

  9. BLEED POWER STEERING FLUID

  10. CHECK FOR POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK

  11. INSTALL FRONT WHEELS

  12. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  13. ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Steering Gear -- Installation



1. INSTALL RACK AND PINION POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY
  1. Install the steering gear assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

    Torque:
    120 N*m{1224 kgf*cm, 89 ft.*lbf}
    NOTICE:
    Hold the nuts and tighten the bolts to install the power steering link assembly.


2. CONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for LHD)
  1. Install the pressure feed tube clamp with the bolts.

    Torque:
    28 N*m{286 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf}
  1. Connect the pressure feed tube (return tube side) to the steering gear with the clamp.

  1. Using a union nut wrench, connect the pressure feed tube (pressure feed tube side) to the steering gear and connect the tube to the vane pump.

    Torque:
    25 N*m{255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf}
    HINT:
    Use the formula to calculate special torque values for situations where a union nut wrench is combined with a torque wrench (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html).


3. CONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE ASSEMBLY (for RHD)
HINT:
Use the same procedure described for LHD vehicles.


4. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
  1. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle with the nut.

    Torque:
    91 N*m{928 kgf*cm, 67 ft.*lbf}
    NOTICE:
    Tighten the nut up to an additional 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.
  1. Install a new cotter pin.



5. CONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
HINT:
Use the same procedure described for the LH side.


6. CONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT
  1. for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column:
    Connect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft (LandCruiser RM0000039SG031X.html).

  1. for Power Tilt and Power Telescopic Steering Column:
    Connect the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft (LandCruiser RM0000039SG032X.html).



7. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY
  1. for 1GR-FE:
    Install the engine (LandCruiser RM000002B5J026X.html).

  1. for 1KD-FTV:
    Install the engine (LandCruiser RM0000045F8013X.html).

  1. for 5L-E:
    Install the engine (LandCruiser RM000000FYK01XX.html).

  1. for 2TR-FE:
    Install the engine (LandCruiser RM00000463500IX.html).

  1. for 1GD-FTV:
    Install the engine (LandCruiser RM000005UTU000X.html).



8. ADD POWER STEERING FLUID


9. BLEED POWER STEERING FLUID
  1. for 1GR-FE:
    Bleed the power steering fluid (LandCruiser RM0000048OM00GX.html).

  1. for 1KD-FTV:
    Bleed the power steering fluid (LandCruiser RM0000048P0007X.html).

  1. for 5L-E:
    Bleed the power steering fluid (LandCruiser RM0000048OY007X.html).

  1. for 2TR-FE:
    Bleed the power steering fluid (LandCruiser RM0000048OZ00BX.html).

  1. for 1GD-FTV:
    Bleed the power steering fluid (LandCruiser RM0000048P0008X.html).



10. CHECK FOR POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK


11. INSTALL FRONT WHEELS
Torque:
for steel wheel:
112 N*m{1137 kgf*cm, 82 ft.*lbf}
for aluminum wheel:
103 N*m{1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf}


12. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD


13. ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
