Windshield Glass -- Removal



1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE:
  1. After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (LandCruiser RM000003YMD00TX.html).
  2. When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (LandCruiser RM000003YMF011X.html).


2. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL
  1. Remove the 13 clips and upper radiator support seal.



3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SIDE PANEL PROTECTOR LH

  1. Detach the 3 clips and guide, and remove the front fender side panel protector.

      NOTICE:
      1. When removing the windshield outside moulding, be careful not to damage the roof drip side finish moulding clip.
      2. If a roof drip side finish moulding clip is damaged or becomes detached from the vehicle, replace it with a new one.

    1. Completely cover the airbag with a cloth or nylon sheet and secure the ends of the cover with adhesive tape as shown in the illustration.

      NOTICE:
      Cover the curtain shield airbag with a protective cover as soon as the front pillar garnish is removed.

  1. w/ Sliding Roof:

    1. Partially remove the roof headlining.

      HINT:
      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step.
      Refer to the following procedures (LandCruiser RM0000046JL02NX.html).
  1. w/o Sliding Roof:

    1. Partially remove the roof headlining.

      HINT:
      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step.
      Refer to the following procedures (LandCruiser RM0000046JQ00WX.html).


36. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS


NOTICE:
  1. There are No. 1 and No. 2 stoppers on the windshield glass as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass when cutting off the adhesive.
  2. To prevent the windshield glass from dropping when performing this operation, be sure to hold the windshield glass using suction cups.
HINT:
Depending on the vehicle specifications, a 1-piece or 2-piece type stopper is used.

38. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING
  1. Using a scraper, remove the moulding.

    NOTICE:
    1. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
    2. Be sure to replace the moulding with a new one.


39. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER
  1. Using a scraper, remove the 2 stoppers.

    NOTICE:
    1. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.
    2. Be sure to replace the stoppers with new ones.


40. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)

42. REMOVE NO. 3 WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING CLIP
HINT:
Perform the following procedures if replacing any No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips.
  1. Put a 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit into a drill.

  1. Wind tape around the drill bit approximately 5 mm (0.197 in.) from the tip of the drill.

    HINT:
    Tape the 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit to prevent the drill bit from going too deep.

  1. Lightly press the drill against the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips, drill off the flanges of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips, and remove it.

    NOTICE:
    1. Pressing the drill too firmly will cause the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip to turn and result in the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip not being drilled through.
    2. Do not pry the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips with the drill because this may cause damage to the installation holes of the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips or the drill bit.
    CAUTION:
    Be careful of the drilled No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips as they may become hot.
  1. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the No. 3 windshield outside moulding clip fragments and shavings from the drilled areas.

    HINT:
    Use the same procedure to remove clips on the other side.


43. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS

  1. Using a scraper, remove the damaged stoppers, dam and adhesive sticking to the glass.

  1. Clean the outer circumference of the glass with non-residue solvent.

    NOTICE:
    1. Do not touch the surface of the glass after cleaning it.
    2. Be careful not to damage the glass.
    3. Even if using new glass, clean the glass with non-residue solvent.


44. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY

  1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.

    1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

      NOTICE:
      Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
      HINT:
      Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.
  1. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

    HINT:
    Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
