  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  4. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  5. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  8. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

Parking Brake Cable (For 4Wd And Pre-Runner) -- Removal



1. PRECAUTION
NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (HILUX_TGN26 RM000004QR1003X.html).


2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (HILUX_TGN26 RM000004QR3003X.html).


3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL


4. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Release the parking brake lever, and remove the drum and gasket.

    HINT:
    If the drum cannot be removed easily, perform the following procedures.

  1. Remove the shoe adjusting hole plug and insert a screwdriver into the hole on the backing plate, and hold the automatic adjust lever away from the adjuster.

  1. Using another screwdriver, compress the shoe adjuster by turning the adjusting wheel.



5. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

  1. w/ Console Box Lid:

  1. w/o Console Box Lid:
    (HILUX_TGN26 RM000004QUM001X.html)



6. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the No. 1 parking brake cable from the parking brake lever (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010M500VX_01_0006.html).

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 heat insulator.



  1. Remove the No. 1 clip and pin from the No. 3 parking brake cable.

  1. Disconnect the No. 1 parking brake cable from the No. 3 parking brake cable.

  1. Disconnect the No. 1 parking brake cable from the parking brake equalizer.

  1. Remove the bolt holding the No. 1 parking brake cable.

  1. Remove the No. 1 parking brake cable clamp from the No. 1 parking brake cable.

  1. Remove the No. 1 parking brake cable from the cable support bracket.

  1. Remove the No. 1 parking brake cable.



7. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the No. 2 parking brake cable from the parking brake shoe lever RH and backing plate RH.

    1. Disconnect the No. 2 parking brake cable from the parking brake shoe lever (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010QR00RX.html).

      HINT:
      Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the No. 2 parking brake cable from the backing plate.



  1. Disconnect the No. 2 parking brake cable from the parking brake equalizer.

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 2 parking brake cable.



8. REMOVE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Disconnect the No. 3 parking brake cable from the parking brake shoe lever LH and backing plate LH.

    1. Disconnect the No. 3 parking brake cable from the parking brake shoe lever (HILUX_TGN26 RM0000010QR00RX.html).

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the No. 3 parking brake cable from the backing plate.



  1. Remove the No. 3 clip.
