DTC P0443 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit |
DESCRIPTION
- HINT:
- This DTC P0443 is applicable to Mexico models only.
To reduce hydrocarbon emissions, evaporated fuel from the fuel tank is routed through a charcoal canister to the intake manifold for combustion in the cylinders. The ECM changes the duty signals to the purge VSV so that the intake amount of hydrocarbon emissions is appropriate for the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, vehicle speed, etc.) after the engine is warmed up.DTC No.
| DTC Detection Condition
| Trouble Area
|
P0443
| Both of the following conditions (a) and (b) are met (1 trip detection logic): (a) The target control value and actual control value do not match for 10 seconds or more. (b) The target control value and actual control value do not match for 80 times or more.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
- HINT:
- Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.
1.PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (ACTIVATE PURGE VSV CONTROL) |
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the purge VSV.
Start the engine.
Turn the Techstream on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control.
When the purge VSV is operated using the Techstream, check whether the VSV applies suction to your finger.
- OK:
Tester Operation
| Specified Condition
|
VSV is ON
| VSV applies suction to finger
|
VSV is OFF
| VSV applies no suction to finger
|
Reconnect the vacuum hose to the purge VSV.
Inspect the purge VSV (COROLLA_ZRE142 RM000000R35032X.html).
3.INSPECT PURGE VSV (POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE) |
Disconnect the purge VSV connector.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Voltage:
Tester Connection
| Switch Condition
| Specified Condition
|
B19-2 - Body ground
| Ignition switch ON
| 11 to 14 V
|
Reconnect the purge VSV connector.
4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - ECM) |
Disconnect the purge VSV connector.
Disconnect the ECM connector.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance (Check for Open):
Tester Connection
| Condition
| Specified Condition
|
B19-1 - B31-62 (PRG)
| Always
| Below 1 Ω
|
- Standard Resistance (Check for Short):
Tester Connection
| Condition
| Specified Condition
|
B19-1 or B31-62 (PRG) - Body ground
| Always
| 10 kΩ or higher
|
Reconnect the purge VSV connector.
Reconnect the ECM connector.
| REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PURGE VSV - ECM) |
|
|
5.INSPECT FUSE (EFI NO. 2 FUSE) |
Remove the EFI No. 2 fuse from the engine room relay block.
Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
- Standard Resistance:
Tester Connection
| Condition
| Specified Condition
|
EFI No. 2 fuse
| Always
| Below 1 Ω
|
Reinstall the EFI No. 2 fuse.
| REPLACE FUSE (EFI NO. 2 FUSE) |
|
|
OK |
|
|
|
REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION RELAY (EFI MAIN RELAY) - PURGE VSV) |
|
