DESCRIPTION

When the ignition switch is turned on (IG), the battery voltage is applied to the IGSW of the ECM. The output signal from the MREL terminal of the ECM causes a current to flow to the coil, closing the contacts of the integration relay (EFI MAIN relay) and supplying power to either terminal +B or +B2 of the ECM.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1.INSPECT INTEGRATION RELAY (INTEGRATION RELAY - BODY GROUND)

  1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

  1. Measure the voltage between the terminal of the integration relay and body ground.

    Standard voltage:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Engine room relay block (1C-1) - Body ground
    9 to 14 V
  1. Reinstall the integration relay.

2.INSPECT INTEGRATION RELAY (EFI MAIN RELAY)
  1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room relay block.



  1. Inspect the EFI MAIN fuse.

    1. Remove the EFI MAIN fuse from the integration relay.

    2. Measure the EFI MAIN fuse resistance.

      Standard resistance:
      Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall the EFI MAIN fuse.

  1. Inspect the EFI MAIN relay.

    1. Measure the EFI MAIN relay resistance.

      Standard resistance:
      Tester Connection
      Specified Condition
      1C-1 - 1A-4
      10 kΩ or higher
      Below 1 Ω
      (Apply battery voltage between terminals 1A-2 and 1A-3)
  1. Reinstall the integration relay.

3.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (+B, +B2 AND MREL CIRCUIT)

  1. Check the harness and the connectors between the integration relay and the ECM.

    1. Remove the integration relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

    2. Disconnect the A12 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance (Check for open):
      Tester Connection
      Specified Condition
      MREL (A12-44) - Engine room relay block (1A-2)
      Below 1Ω
      +B (A12-2) - Engine room relay block (1A-4)
      +B2 (A12-1) - Engine room relay block (1A-4)
      Standard resistance (Check for short):
      Tester Connection
      Specified Condition
      MREL (A12-44) or Engine room relay block (1A-2) - Body ground
      10 kΩ or higher
      +B (A12-2) or Engine room relay block (1A-4) - Body ground
      +B2 (A12-1) or Engine room relay block (1A-4) - Body ground
  1. Check the harness and the connectors between the integration relay and body ground.

    1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connector and body ground.

      Standard resistance (Check for open):
      Tester Connection
      Specified Condition
      Engine room relay block (1A-3) - Body ground
      Below 1Ω
  1. Reinstall the integration relay.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.

4.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND)

  1. Disconnect the B32 ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    E1 (B32-104) - Body ground
    Below 1Ω
  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.

5.INSPECT ECM (IGSW VOLTAGE)

  1. Disconnect the B32 and A12 ECM connectors.

  1. Turn the ignition switch on (IG).

  1. Measure the voltage between the terminals of the B32 and A12 ECM connectors.

    Standard voltage:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    IGSW (A12-28) - E1 (B32-104)
    9 to 14 V
  1. Reconnect the ECM connectors.

6.INSPECT FUSE (IGN AND IG2 FUSE)

  1. Remove the IGN fuse from the main body ECU (instrument panel junction block).

  1. Remove the IG2 fuse from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

  1. Measure the IGN and IG2 fuse resistance.

    Standard resistance:
    Below 1Ω
  1. Reinstall the IGN fuse.

  1. Reinstall the IG2 fuse.

CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS CONNECTED TO FUSE, AND REPLACE FUSE
OK


7.INSPECT IG2 RELAY

  1. Remove the IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

  1. Check the resistance.

    Standard resistance:
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    3 - 5
    10 kΩ or higher
    3 - 5
    Below 1 Ω
    (When battery voltage applied to terminals 1 and 2)
  1. Reinstall the relay.

8.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - ENGINE ROOM NO. 1 RELAY BLOCK)

  1. Remove the IG2 relay from the engine room No. 1 relay block.

  1. Disconnect the A12 ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Relay block IG2 relay terminal (5) - IGSW (A12-28)
    Below 1 Ω
    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Relay block IG2 relay terminal (5) or IGSW (A12-28) - Body ground
    10 KΩ or higher
  1. Reinstall the IG2 relay.

  1. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    Result:

  1. Remove the instrument panel junction block (main body ECU).

  1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Relay block IG2 relay terminal (1) - IG2D (E19-5)
    Below 1Ω
    Relay block IG2 relay terminal (2) - Body ground
    Below 1Ω
    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    IG2D (E19-5) - Body ground
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reinstall the IG2 relay.

  1. Reconnect the main body ECU.

  1. Disconnect the E5 ignition switch connector.

  1. Measure the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance (Check for open):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    Relay block IG2 relay terminal (1) - IG2 (E5-6)
    Below 1Ω
    Relay block IG2 relay terminal (2) - Body ground
    Below 1Ω
    Standard resistance (Check for short):
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    IG2 (E5-6) - Body ground
    10 kΩ or higher
  1. Reinstall the integration relay.

  1. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

  1. Measure the resistance.

    Standard resistance:
    Ignition Switch Position
    Tester Connection
    Specified Condition
    LOCK
    All Terminals
    10 kΩ or higher
    ACC
    2 - 3
    Below 1 Ω
    ON
    2 - 3, 2 - 4, 6 - 7
    START
    1 - 2, 2 - 4, 6 - 7, 7 - 8
  1. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.
