- УКАЗАНИЕ:
- In a malfunction that the EGR system is always operating, black or white smoke may be emitted from the exhaust pipe.
- The type of ignition switch on this model differs according to the specifications of the vehicle. For the expressions used in this section, refer to the "EXPRESSIONS OF IGNITION SWITCH" precaution (see page RAV4_ACA30 RM00000215G002X.html).
| 1. CHECK SEATING OF EGR VALVE |
Start the engine, then check that it starts and runs at idle.
| 2. CHECK HOT ENGINE CONDITION |
Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

Start the engine, then run it at idle.
Turn the intelligent tester on.
Select "Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the EGR step position" in the Data List.
Warm up the engine.
The coolant temperature should be between 75°C (167°F) and 90°C (194°F).
Check the MAF reading.
- Standard:
Engine Condition Active Test MAF Idling Active test not performed 4.8 to 15.2 g/sec. Active test performed (Operate EGR position 0%) 8.4 to 15.2 g/sec.
- УКАЗАНИЕ:
- If the reading is out of the standard range in either conditions "Active test performed" or "Active test not performed", replace the EGR valve.
- If the MAF reading is out of the standard range in both conditions "Active test performed" and "Active test not performed", check the mass air flow meter.
| 3. VISUALLY INSPECT HOSES, CONNECTORS AND GASKETS |
Check for cracks, leaks or damage.
Check the engine assembly to see if the portions indicated by the arrows have cracks, leaks or damage.
- ПРИМЕЧАНИЕ:
- Detachment or other problems with the engine oil dipstick, filler cap, PCV hose and other components may cause the engine to run improperly.
- Air suction caused by disconnections, looseness or cracks in the parts of the air induction system between the throttle body and cylinder head will cause engine failure or engine malfunctions.
