INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR BACKLASH
INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL PINION THRUST WASHER
INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT

| 1. INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR BACKLASH |
Hold the front differential pinion to the front differential case side. Using a dial indicator, measure the front differential side gear backlash.
- Standard backlash:
- 0.05 to 0.20 mm (0.0020 to 0.0079 in.)
If backlash is out of specification, install proper side gear thrust washers.
| 2. INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL PINION THRUST WASHER |
Using a micrometer, measure the thickness of the front differential pinion thrust washer.
- Standard thickness:
- 0.54 to 0.66 mm (0.0213 to 0.0260 in.)
- Minimum thickness:
- 0.54 mm (0.0213 in.)
If the thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front differential pinion thrust washer.
| 3. INSPECT FRONT NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT |
Using a micrometer, measure the outside diameter of the front No. 1 differential pinion shaft.
- Standard diameter:
- 20.499 to 20.520 mm (0.80705 to 0.80787 in.)
- Minimum thickness:
- 20.499 mm (0.80705 in.)
If the outer diameter is less than the minimum, replace the front No. 1 differential pinion shaft.
